I've bought 6 x new Hondas, two of them were CR-Vs. I love Hondas and there's no denying their reliability. (It will be great to see their engines return to F1 next year ).

Then the new Jeep Cherokee KL came on the market. This year we test drove nearly all of the Meduim SUVs in the range and although we "wanted" to love the Honda CR-V, it simply could not compete with the KL Cherokee (limited), in any area.

So the wife will get the 2015 Cherokee (soon,... hopefully) and I'll get the new updated Grand Cherokee in a few years time. Until then I'll continue to drive and enjoy my 2009 Honda Odyssey (luxury)..... which I consider a "Station Wagon" and NOT a People Mover, ...thankyou very much!

People read a lot on the Internet and take it for granted that it is all true.
You usually read the negatives, as people with only positive experiences don't go on forums to complain

The service tech is very experienced and the "learning" of the gearbox is important, hence an internal note from Chrysler to all dealers. He even offered to take the same car as a loaner at the 10k service to compare. So, you can believe it or not.
Fact is that the gearboxes have some issues and they are not sorted yet.

The gearbox in the Diesel is very different, much smoother, but has some lag at times, especially when decelerating and then accelerating again.
This could also be an engine programming issue, which micht come from the drive-by-wire throttle.
We will actually install a chip in a few weeks time, which addresses this issue, but it doesn't give you more power.

The V6 will be a thirsty engine, as it already rated at 10 litres in the combined cycle and nearly 14 in the city.
The 2.4 was already sitting around 10 litres when I drove it.

Build quality is different to a Honda, no doubt about that.
The materials are a little cheaper, the gaps are not as tight and I would imagine the plastics will start to rattle eventually.

I would normally recommend to look at the new X-Trail, but I can't after my episodes with Nissan.

What about looking at a Kia Sportage for your wife?

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

Well that was fast. Sold 'old Jeep' ('07 WK) this morning after only advertising for two days and I had to ring other people that were due to come this afternoon to view it. Now there is a free spot next to WK2 for KL.

A bit sad really to see her leave because it really has been a great vehicle but it's gone to a good home - a grey nomad couple to pull their new van. Their Nissan wasn't up for the job they said so they are selling that.

Bring on the KL!

Marty, are you tracking this? Have you got an E#/VON from your dealership? I've been sticky-beaking and can't find you on Milous' tracking thread.

Julian (two-dogs) - gotta be close to loading onto the vessel now.

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

Thank you for the reply guys, all great info and taken onboard, much appreciated.

Re the transmission learn, I was basing that on all the modern transmissions I know of, including the 6spd ZF's learn 'on the job' based on a table of parameters, drive like you stole it and it will typically hold gears longer and shift faster/harder, drive it gently and it shift up earlier.
As I understand it, the 9sp has 3 gear sets, and there is an issue on downshift when transfer between the gear sets , I did find this (May have been posted elsewhere on the forum?) which describes a procedure -

Anyway, off to the dealer now

Yes, I'm hoping it's on the Fidelio. The updates for mine regarding what's happening a Curtis Bay aren't as detailed as those for some of the other vehicles shipped from there.

I can only speak for the ZF 8-speed on our '14 GC CRD (early build April '13). But it definitely 'learns'. I read so much on the ZF transmission after we took delivery and my husband was bitching and moaning about the hard shifting at times - not always just sometime.

I can't tell you when it came good - maybe the 4 month mark (?) but it did come good and surprisingly even he agrees. Over 12 months of ownership and the shifting is still smooth.

I may **cough** drive it sometimes like I stole it but that's less for the transmission and more to avoid the DPF issue on the CRD. We've never gone into limp mode.

I'm not expecting any issues with the KL.

Yeah, I noticed that as well with ours. It stayed in initial 'Ramp Compare Inventory' for ages (well at least a week - seemed longer ) but then it all started to happen. Here's a C&P of ours:

Quote:

Ramp Compare Inventory 09/26/2014 07:40 PM EDT Curtis Bay, MD

Vessel Unloaded 315 11/01/2014 06:57 AM CDT Port Kembla, AU
I think you're right and it will go on the Fidelio.

Depending on what time it comes in to Port Kembla, I might watch it from the SeaScape Cafe, near the entrance to the harbour. I had breakfast out there this morning with some friends, watching another WW car carrier (the Tiger) come in.

Good idea. We are about 40 mins from you so depending on the day and time, we might take a drive down and join you.

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

I've been watching the Fidelio on a marine tracking app on my iPad, and I thought she was under way (as the Wallenius Wilhelmsen schedule said she'd leave Baltimore on the 7th, and it's now 11:45pm there). However, it looks like she's berthing at another car loading wharf on the other side of the bay from where she was moored before. That berth is actually closer to the Curtis Bay neighbourhood. Perhaps they unload at one berth, and load at the other?
