Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

I found something new today with regards to the Electronic park brake and the auto setting in the Uconnect screen.

I've been running with this for a few weeks now - it's an excellent feature. As soon as the vehicle is put in Park (P) the park brake comes on. When the vehicle is put in Drive (D) or Reverse (R) and the accelerator is tapped, the park brake releases.

Except today, when I put it into D and tapped the accelerator, it wouldn't move and the message on the EVIC was to manually release the park brake.

WTF? I figured out it was because I did not have my seatbelt latched. I tested it a few times and could recreate it each time.

So no seatbelt latched means no auto release of the park brake.

LOL... I wondered why it didn't work sometimes

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

As a follow up to my earlier post, a few more observations...

I moaned before about having nowhere to put a map book (I have no underseat storage). I thought I looked for one on the seatback before but clearly I am going blind as there is one on the RH seat but not the left. Reached in there and found a build sheet sticker ! (below)

Has no one else pinched their finger in the gear shift release button - it can be vicious !!!

Now I am getting "at one" with the car, I am finding I love the volume controls on the back of the steering wheel. Thought it was a dumb idea to start with. :slap fight:

BTW. New wheels (as well as a set of TPMS sensors from the US) have arrived. Will get the sensors fitted in the next couple of days so I can fit them...

Embarrassed...

Haven't pinched my fingers yet.

With regards to the media controls behind the steering wheel (and you are not the first to mention it - I have read Aust reviews with regards to this and not just for the KL but also the GC ) but the thing is, for me, it is perfectly natural and has always been there in the old Jeeps.

Our '07 GC had these controls behind the wheel so I would have been very surprised if it wasn't there on the new vehicles and it was natural for me taking the wheel initially, nearly two years ago for the MY14 Grand and now for the KL to reach my fingers around and find (thankfully) that they were still in place.

It's what you get used to I guess and I suppose coming new to the Jeep from other vehicles it would feel a bit strange if you had never had it before.

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

More boring trivia discovered when swapping wheels over tonight...

Limited wheels are made in China, jack made in Canada.

Jacking a car up with good wheel travel is time consuming !

I took some photos when the wheels were off which may be of interest (not uploaded yet) but there are a lot of aluminium components in there.

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

Ok, photos uploaded.

New wheels (still 18's as I want comfort !) 18x7.5 with 235/55 Kuhmo KL15's (somewhat ironic eh ?). Just waiting for the badges for the hubs.

May not to be everyone's taste but I like the look. I have a set of TPMS sensors ($100 or so from the U.S.) fitted too. Also found out that the dealer left the tyres way over pressure (3.1 instead of 2.3)...

Other photos of inside the wheel arches in case anyone is interested !

Love the tyres and rims. What's the road noise of the Kuhmo's compared to the Bridgestone's?

The Trailhawk has a strap in the squab of the passenger seat(where your ar$e goes)...pull that and the squab pulls up revealing a place for the maps or other vitals...not sure if it's on other models.

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

Fuel usage from 2k to 12000k
Average trips for me are a 50km round trip to work and back, crowded toll road one way and back streets coming home with a few highway trips and round town driving

I missed a few data points, not sure why it happened, overall trends can be seen though
This is a trailhawk so is heavier than the LTD or LAT models,
the dash is showing 11.6average but that started at odometer 0kms (and has no missing data points

Every car will have the flip up except those with vented seats. Maybe that is why the option has been discontinued !

I should have used a phone app to check but they seem quieter to me. At worst, they are the same.
