I am in Lake Cathie, NSW, Australia which is on the Mid North Coast near Port Macquarie

I ordered my Jeep Cherokee TH 2014 MY15 last week with all options and delivery should be this week, so excited. Replacing a Subaru WRX MY13, we already have a MY14 Jeep GC Limited

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

Took my car for the 12k service today. They want it back overnight next month so they can do the Transmission re-learn and check out a few of the niggles that I've pointed out... they will give me a spare car so no complaints from me.
The transmission was clearly wrong with 2nd to 3rd shifts and an occasional clunk on deceleration so I was expecting it.

Just one thing though and I've found this now with 3 makes of car.
If you book for a service but provide them with a list of faults at the time you book it the faults are never attended to on the service day, they will have a quick look and say nah you'll have to bring it back. They make their money from the service and any warranty issues are a hinderance rather than par for the course. I would prefer it if they said "thats a long list, can we have the car for 2 days to get it all sorted?" rather than 2 trips to the dealership and 2 pickups.

Again not Jeep specific, I found it with Kia and Ford as well.

Welcome xbigdx. Just like you, we also have an MY14 GC, except Overland, not the Limited.

They are different - the WK2 vs the KL but that is to be expected (the difference) and were never supposed to go up against each other. I love driving both.

After spending time in the KL, when I take the WK2 for a drive I immediately fall in love (all over again) with its sheer power and road manners. There is no disputing the power of the thing and the way it handles for a vehicle of its size, not to mention it is just so damn good looking.

Conversely, I get back in the KL and love all the tech and its ability and cleverness which the Grand lacks.

I am torn between these two vehicles but thankfully I get to choose each day which one I will take.

I love both and if you would ask me to choose between the two I could not make the choice.

Definitely both in the driveway is the best option.

What sort of faults sFlattop?

I cannot respond with regards to the KL (haven't reached 1st service yet) but with regards to the Grand, the dealer is generally on top of possibe TSBs that need to be applied.

I arrive at the desk with my list in-hand and am handed their list of what they think they should do and generally they match - we are both on the same page.

Are your faults TSB fixable or other things?

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

I took mine in for the transmission update. The 3>1 downshifts as you coast towards a stop seem better to me (slightly less of that accelerating feeling if you know what I mean ?). Up shifts in lower gears still not as smooth as I would like. I expect there are still more updates to come in respect to the transmission.

I emailed the list to the dealer at least a few weeks before which was what peeved me, they had the opportunity to book it in for a longer period, instead I feel it was glossed over. Particularly the safety recall which they said they would do but has now been postponed until the next visit.

Main issues
Transmission shift, needs a flash and re-learn
R05 (i think, safety recall)
Broken rubber stopper on the cargo blind RHS
Intermittent dropouts on bluetooth for phone (could be phone and not car, but check for updates)
Outdated maps on GPS (they told me march 2013 is the latest version)
Issues with ambient air temp
Issues with ACC cruise turning off alone
Issues with park sensors going off while the car is stationary and no obstacles in sight.

Issues they attended to
Oil change & filter, all checks and standard service
Transmission-no
R05 -no
broken rubber -no
Bluetooth, tested with iPhone (i run android) no fault found and no updates
Maps- no updates available
Air temp -no
Acc-no
Park sensors -no

I'm sure there were more on the list but to be honest the only ones I really cared about were the transmission, bluetooth and safety recall. I made it clear that I was less worried about the other issues.
I feel I just got a standard service, the bluetooth parings were reset so I repaired my phone but the same issue occurs(I've repaired multiple times).

There are maps available for the newer jeeps 2015 and I suspect they are a newer version (as voice control seems to have more support), maybe they are incompatible but what does that mean? I bought a June 2014 car with March 2013 maps, is that the best I will get? They were over a year old before the model hit Aus. they are now 2 years old and the car is only 9 months from release. My wrong assumption was that a brand new line of cars with brand new tech would have brand new maps.

anyhow enough ranting, they are giving me a spare car for 2 days next month to address my issues.

edit* P.S I was a bit cheeky and emailed them a link to another website that listed all of the TSB's for the KL.
I know someone who actually prints them out and leaves them on the front seat when he drops his car off.

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

15,000KM update

Good Morning,

some of you are aware of some ongoing issues with my Limited Diesel.

It turns out that many of the gearboxes are faulty and can't be repaired by software, as it is a hardware issue.
This now goes back and forth between FiatChrysler and ZF.
Ultimately some gearboxes will get replaced.
This is for all KL, regardless of engine config.

The MY14 Uconnect is different to the MY15 system and features that are available in MY15 will not be available for MY14 at this stage.
The Navigation system is operating strangely on all model years, even in Alfa or Fiat cars, regardless of MY. The system doesn't always take the fastest route, even if selected.

My Uconnect started changing radio stations on its own now as well

I also experienced the park sensors going crazy. Hey, it's a feature not a fault

Some cabin noises were fixed, rattles in both front doors were getting worse.

The fuel consumption was under 7 litres according to the car computer with up to 0.5 litres in reality.

I writing a little bit about the past, as the car is most probably a total loss, as I had a collision on Thursday.
Most airbags popped out and I can say, the KL is a safe car. Both my son and I wallked away from the accident with only some bruising.

The insurance will tell me late next week what is happening with the car. It is getting towed from the tow company to their major assesment centre.
I'm not at fault, so I need to be patient and wait for the outcome, as I'm only dealing with my insurance at this stage. I would get a new car as replacement, according to my insurance policy.

I might end up with a MY15 KL Limited

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

Good to hear that both of you are all right. Happy that the Cherokee kept you safe and it might be a blessing in disguise you will be getting a new trouble free Cherokee.

Mine has been trouble free since I got the squeaky seat fixed and find every excuse to drive it. Just love driving it

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

Took delivery on Friday of a JC Limited with a January 2015 build date. all good so far except the too frequent beep-beep when audio for camera notification selected on NAV system.

Would love to have the camera alert but not if it beeps for pedestrian crossings, traffic lights etc with no cameras.

I would say sad to hear about your loss but every dark cloud has a silver limited I mean lining...

I have experienced the park sensors going off for no reason, sitting at the lights with no one in front of me...no one was stirring not even a mouse...
yet the front sensors give a false positive... no real harm done but I wonder if they turn off at speed or one day am I going to feel the ABS kick in due to a false positive?

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

Hi guys,

I spent a lot of times in car dealerships lately and tested the Kia Sorrento, Hyundai Santa Fe, VW Tiguan, Mazda CX5 and the Grand Cherokee.

Sorrento not bad, but soon to be replaced, Tiguan not great and smallish, CX5 impressed by engine and quality but not by features, Grand Cherokee great engine but overall not impressed.
That leaves the Santa Fe, which overall delivers the best package.

I decied against a new Cherokee, as the gearbox issue is not solved (my Cherokee was due for a new box), the Navigation System is not what I expect for such a system and I'm really concerned about electric gremlins down the track, as the park sensors and radios already start playing up.
The Diesel engine is okay, but doesn't have enough torque and the drive by wire throttle has some issues as well.
Test drive a CX5, a Santa Fe or even a Tiguan, and you will understand where I am coming from.

I had issues with a Nissan Murano and traded it for a newer model yaer Murano. Guess what... Was not much better, plus I needed a new gearbox after 70,000k's.
I won't do the same with the Cherokee, as I got burned before and don't want to end up with a problem case, which cost me a lot of money.

All the best and trouble free motoring.

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

Hello All

I recently upgraded to a Galaxy S6 Edge - The Qi charging still works - however the fastening system is nowhere near as good as it was for other phones - no doubt due to the shape of the S6 Edge - has anyone heard anything about this?
