2,200km of Freeway Driving complete. Verdict =

The KL felt very comfortable and solid on the Open Road. The Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and LaneSense System operated beautifully and became my best friends. On the rare occasion when I would stray, slightly, from the Lane, the LaneSence System would provide a subtle correction which was felt in the steering wheel. It was like "watching my back"; a great safety feature for long trips.

The comfortable seats, air-conditioner and informative GPS ensured an enjoyable, albeit long, ride. There were no annoying squeaks or rattles and the car steered straight and true. I love the feel of the thick steering wheel.

The 3.2 V6 had plenty of power for the sections of undulating road and for overtaking purposes. The transmission shifted gears smoothly and maintained the RPMs at an efficient 1,800RPM at 113kmh (70.2mph).
Fuel consumption for 1,000km of highway driving was 7.8 litres per 100km or 30.1 miles per gallon (US).

I do wish that I had slightly more room. But this isn't the Grand Cherokee, so for a medium sized SUV I guess that the Cherokee fits the purpose nicely.

If the Cherokee drives this well, I can't wait to own the bigger brother, Grand Cherokee, and experience the Open Road in one of those someday soon

Good stuff Marty. What was it like to sleep in? A bit squishy I should imagine. You need one of the Jeep Tailgate tents if you're going to make a habit out of it.

Hi SJandL,

if you look closely at the first (camp) Pic, you'll see a stretcher bed behind the table. I slept on that and The Kid (13 years old) slept on an Air-Bed in the Jeep.

The KL is great for one person to sleep in the back, but yes, I can imagine it will be a tight squeeze for two.

Re: MY15 KL Limited

Hi Hiland

Not sure if Marty is still here, hopefully he is and will get back to you but also we have a KL Limited (MY15) as well, except ours is diesel with the 2.0L CRD engine. Took delivery back in Nov '14 and have just had her 30,000 service done (20,000 approx. on the clock).

No issues whatsoever with it. The transmission is smooth, the tech is great (no 'blips') and she continues to be a thoroughly enjoyable drive.

G'Day hiland, our KL has just clicked over 20,000km (19 months old) and she is still trouble free

All we do is the scheduled servicing and put fuel in her; no dramas. You can see our KL History in the "Garage" section of this Site. I update my Garage every 6 months or so.

I still enjoy driving this car very much and I love all the technology (gadgets) too. Our KL continues to drive beautifully

I think that you'll really enjoy the Trailhawk. All the best

Re: MY15 KL Limited

Yeah, I took abit of a hiatus from here after getting involved with some "discussions" with people about the friggin Stop / Start system.

They just kept moaning, groaning, whinging and whining about it,..... oh it was sooooo painful. One bloke even said that he'd rather die than own a car with the Stop / Start technology. That's just plain stupid and ignorant!

As a young bloke I remember my Dad and his friends complaining about the "new" electric windows for cars........

The simple solution to the Stop / Start is to just take a millisecond and press the stupid "STOP" button to deactivate the Stop / Start system. But apparently even that was too hard for some

Anyhooooooo, I'm back now, as I've really missed talking about our beloved Jeeps

As you can see, like you, our Cherokee has been terrific. I love this car

I can't wait to get into a Grand Cherokee, but I'm going to wait until the new model year in '18 or '19.

Talk again soon SJandL

Re: MY15 KL Limited

Oh I'm glad you're still around Marty.

Yes, with regard to the S/S feature. Whinging and moaning abounds especially since FCA introduced it to the '16 WK's. I was waiting for the whinging to start and true to form.. bingo.

Our KL has been fantastic. 2 years coming up in Nov and zero complaints. No obscure rattles, no transmission issues, no weird stuff - just keeps on delivering. Still love driving it everyday.

Did you know there is a new Uconnect version out - V 16.16.13. Check it out.

As for our Grand, same old. Well bedded in. No issues. Joined to my husbands hip. He never wants to get rid of it. I thought I had convinced him to upgrade to '17 but no, he loves his '14 WK too much to let it go.

Now the thought is that we will wait until WL (lets call it WL - 5th generation) comes out. I think then, he will trade up. (maybe).

Re: MY15 KL Limited

Hi all, I too have been dormant for a while.

Hoping for a downloadable uConnect update soon.

I've just clocked over 40k in 18 months, and mine has been basically trouble free but I admit that the 2>3 transmission change, despite a couple of software updates, still isn't as smooth as I would like. Average consumption of 7.7l/100km.

Oh, and I hit a ladder while travelling at 110km/h on a freeway requiring a new front bumper and a number of bits and pieces. Unfortunately the parts took quite a number of weeks to arrive but luckily I could still drive it...

Yep, if you check the UConnect Thread here you'll see where I had some fun loading it
