I see lol. Well this is only speculation right now but on the 2018 wrangler thread, the 850re is listed with the 3.6 and 2.0T makes me wonder if there still is a V8 option outside of the SRT's which are getting the 8HP95
wonder what that "New x.xL engine" will be. very curious what all the engine options will be for the 2019+.
something along these lines maybe? or am I way off?
-2.0L Hurricane
-3.6L pentastar
-3.xL supercharged replacement for 5.7 hemi
-3.0L diesel
-???? Trackhawk engine(s)
what do you think will be the replacement for the 5.7L v8. will it be a lesser displacement version of the SRT turbo v6 or will we just get the 2.0L and some iteration of the current 3.6L ?
Yeah but tell that to the M3 folks. Is the V8 a sexier proposition? Sure shit. Twin turbo V6 ? Controversial to say the least (though people forget the M3 previously had an inline 3.2 six cylinder.
But at the end of the day, the new twin turbo V6 is "more fast3r" !
So was looking in my engine bay of my 3.6l 2014 JGC and thought how small the v6 looks in the big engine bay and I wondered if the 2019 could have a smaller engine bay if it's true it won't be getting any larger V8 engines. I would think that could mean increased cabin space for passengers.
Well, after driving BMW x5 rental for a week with 3.0tt I could not wait to get back to the Hemi. And that was a BMW machine.... Once the turbo kicks-on it was ok, but first few seconds were sooo long. Bottom line - don't like the turbo, but better 3.6tt then 2.0 tt I guess.
Don't hold your breath... That doesn't appear to be an option going into the future; rather, it will be fours and sixes with turbo for the performance options with hybrid coming into play at some point. I believe we're going to see that in the 1/2 ton light-truck area, too.
Twin Turbo V6 engines are not slow like the old single turbo engines were. My mother just bought a V6tt Cadillac that is freaking fast. I know, not a large SUV, but still, 180+ mph and 0-60 in 3.8 is freakin' fast!
I can't wait to see how the turbos work in these trucks! I hope it gets done right. I was looking at getting back to another BMW X5.... but I think the newer jeeps look so much better.
I would rather smash my pinky with a ball ping hammer than drive a V-6. My wife has a third row vehicle and I have to drive that V-6 castration machine on the weekend to haul the family and I swear my testosterone drops by 50%. The pitch in my voice gets higher and I cry for no reason. After driving an SRT Jeep for years, I will never own a V-6 as my daily driver. If I have to install a crate motor myself I will not drive a V-6. If those tree huggers in LA, San Fran, and NYC want to save the planet then they will have to overcompensate for my Hellcat crate motor running straight headers and pipes. Mercia!

I'm sure there are some wicked fast twin turbo V6s. But I'm with you on this one let's slap all that technology on a good V8 and I'll buy it. I had a Charger Hellcat and the engine was epic. I don't mind hugging trees, installing LED in my house or going solar for electric. But let us have this one guilty pleasure. A good V8 that rumbles in our cars
Well, if you are someone that absolutely has to have the Hemi in the JGC, be sure to buy a MY18 next year and a lifetime extended service contract. "Times are a changin'..."
But also be sure to observe what the performance specifications are for whatever comes next...maybe we'll be surprised in positive ways.
Heavy vehicle with a big V-8 just feels better than a light V-6. I drive my dad's BMW 335i and it's fun but it ain't the same. Right now I'm spraying a can of hair spray and a can of house cleaner up at the o-zone layer...
I would hope so, I've been waiting for the new Wagoneer for the last 2 years and it looks like we have 2 more to wait. Not having a V8 on that will just kill it for me.....
