Wk3/WL moving to 2020 MY?

Looking very possible with today's announcement. It's will be 60 days before the final engineering decision is made to move to the Giorgio platform. Then 18 months for development....2020 MY.

I saw they said they will decide in 60 days which way to go on the next JGC. I figured the wk3/wl was close to being done with development and next phase was testing and tuning with the new rumored power plants for it.

Re: Wk3/WL moving to 2020 MY?

It has got to be a tough decision. Any new platform for the JGC is a gamble. With the current model selling as well as it is, I'm not sure it's a gamble I would want to take. With the possibility of reduced government pressure on mileage and pollution standards, and relatively low gas prices, some sheet metal changes and added technology may be a better move financially.

Wow! I know the last few years FCA has moved quicker than some of the other major auto manufacturers on developing new platforms and models but just seems you would want more than 2 1/2 to 3 years for the next JGC development and testing. I hope whatever happens with the next JGC that it's a well designed, engineered and built vehicle.

Question the FCA developed platform they are considering would it lend itself to some significant weight savings compared to the current WK- platform?

Yes...weight savings and better dynamics. It's a more modern platform.

I just hope FCA USA in general (and Jeep in specific) are not being driven into financial straights yet again. All this procrastination isn't good.

Shockwave will become famous soon enough
How is this decision just coming down the line now to switch platforms? It seems like they have had the engineers working on thr 2019 GC redesign for 3-5 years now. They should be about ready and planning to enter production for a few test models to work out any issues to get it ready for for mid 2018.

Excuse me for being naive on platforms but but what exactly does it mean? To me without looking it up I would guess it's the frame and general drivetrain layout. How much does this effect what work has been designed on the platform they thought they were moving to? And for them to do this now seems like they must feel it's really worthwhile.
