I can think of two ways of how the drivetrain will be designed in order to cope with the power.

1. Super robust CV joints and transfer case and other components.

2. Some sort of viscous coupling or a slipper-type clutch driving the front wheels.

Maybe a combination of the two. We'll see.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Hellcat

Being that I'm going to hit powerball tonight, I might just get one of these in each color offered... just cause! 😬

I have already told the dealer (months ago) I'll buy one as long as the price is "right". I won't pay more for the Jeep than the "others". 🙀😎

The Hellcat might be faster in a straight line.

But the RR Sport SVR and Porsche Cayenne will probably handle turns & curves better.

And both will also have much better Off Road ability then the Hellcat. Not that folks buying an SUV care about stuff like that.

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee Hellcat

Does this all mean us owners of regular old SRT's will take a major hit on resale?

Not really, the Hellcat version will be priced considerably higher than the 6.4 SRT. While there will be a number of current owners who will trade up, the Hellcat, if tradition follows the Challenger and Charger, will bring in a whole new group of buyers.

This also happened when the WK2 SRT was first released, the majority were new buyers. The price increase over the outgoing WK1 SRT actually helped WK1 values to depreciate at a lesser pace and better hold their value.

There is also the fact the engine is supercharged on this beast. A lot of people don't want to deal with a supercharged engine for an everyday driver, and or a long distance tower or hauler. They aren't all that practical for that purpose, and are extremely complex and expensive. For many of these people, they're more than willing to "settle for" a standard SRT with it's measly 470 H.P. and 465 Ft. pounds of torque, because it's far more practical.

And you can't help but wonder just how many Jeep dealers will have people who are competent enough to work on them, should any major problems arise? It's a car that many smaller Jeep dealers will rarely, if ever see, and sell even fewer of. Making it's customers somewhat high priced "Guinea Pigs".

This car will be reserved for the wealthier Jay Leno types with money to burn, who simply must have the biggest and most powerful, with the most. And going by today's current economic conditions, that won't be all that many. Then of course, there are those people who will prefer the 707 H.P. Hellcat engine in something a little more performance oriented in the handling department, like the Challenger or Charger. That takes another slice out of potential Trackhawk buyers.

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee Hellcat

Hahahaha...everyone said in 2012 that the higher priced wk2 srt would NOT sell at those crazy prices. The 2014 MY alone outsold all 5 years of the wk1 srt8! This thing will sell like hotcakes and it wont just be Jay Leno types. The charger/challenger has never outsold the Jeep SRT and as far as handing...my guess is handling is a wash. Many at the track experience say the jeep handles better and performs better. I guess we'll have to see as all this is speculation.

They'll sell. It just won't be by the boatload. What percentage of people in the market for a SUV are willing to spend almost $100K on one in a troubled economy? Over half of the people in this country can't afford the homes they're presently living in.

Nearly half of all renters can't afford their monthly payments - Dec. 9, 2015
