drip marks in paint

Has anyone had paint drip lines in there stock paint job. I have one on my passenger rear door below the chrome trim piece. I bought the srt8 used with a clear carfax for any body repair.

Re: drip marks in paint

Yes, the factory paint leaves alot to be desired.

The base color is put on almost dry and the clear is sprayed almost to heavy.

To fix it you will need to find someone who can do a paint correction or block it out and polish it. Go to a very good shop (high end) and check their work too!

Re: drip marks in paint

Yeah I have paint probs as well. Blotches under the clear coat as well as drip marks as you stated. Took them to the dealer, they took pics and are checking with chyrco to see if they will pay for the repair.

I was shocked at the number of flaws in the paint I have been able to find.

Re: drip marks in paint

To the OP, just to let you know carfax does not always mean its accident free. Im not saying yours has been in one, but just keep that in mind. Also, you made it sound like the clean carfax means that its never had body work. Body repairs and paint work can easily not be on the autocheck or carfax report.
I dont have an SRT8, but my 2012 Overland's mineral grey paint is flawless. The only vehicles I have seen noticeable drip marks on were vehicles that had aftermarket repaint work.

Edit: Woops thought I was in the WK2 SRT8 section. I did have an 08 SRT8 a couple years ago and it had slight drip marks on a panel that was repainted.

Re: drip marks in paint

My 2010 had drip marks on the liftgate when I picked it up new. Being black, I didn't notice it right away. I also had some "junk" under the paint on the lower passenger rear door. Dealer looked at and worked on both spots but basically said the only way they were going to be able to fix it would be to repaint. Wasn't noticeable enough to me to have them try to repaint black, so I told them just to make a note of it in case it got worse. As long as I keep vehicles, I am bound to have an accident somewhere along the way where it will need repainting anyways.

HOWEVER, if I had spent all that money on any SRT (especially a 2012), they would be finding me a new one!

I have heard Autocheck reports are more thorough and accurate.

Re: drip marks in paint

I agree its probably a repair from a non-reported accident, like a repaint to fix door dings. Look at it under different lights at night; a lot of paint will match up well under sunlight but not so much under, say, street lights.

If its a drip in the clear then you can block sand it and polish it out easily. If its in the color then you have to sand through the clear then re-do the clear.

If you bought it from a reputable dealer they should fix it for you. It shouldn't be difficult or expensive for them to do so.

Re: drip marks in paint

All, it has been documented more than once on this website that Chrysler/ Jeep's paint quality in the past has not been the best. I do agree that just because a Carfax report does not indicate a wreck does not mean there hasn't been one, but you are making a lot of assumptions saying this guy's vehicle may have been wrecked.

Re: drip marks in paint

big run/drip mark on the area when you open the rear passenger door. I suspect its from the factory. I suspect it will be difficult to wet sand out because metallic paints will have the flakes under the top coat so the mark will be even more obvious.
