so i'm considering an 09 SRT8....

A few questions.
1. this willbe a daily driver. I know the gas mileage is bad and i do drive a long way to work but it's all highway. How bad is the highway mpg if i'm just cruising mostly. Sticker says 14 i think. Is that very accurate, conservative/optimistic/etc
2. being that this is very powerful, how bad is it in the snow? It's true 4wd so im assuming it's still good in the snow? I'm coming from an awd WRX. As long as it's about the same, that's fine for me.
3. what are the major differences between say an 08,09, and 2010? Any reason why i should stay away from one model year to the next?
4. Are these reliable? I really liked the 11 overlands, but i want to stay away from a 1st model year new vehicle, and at the time, i would rather save a little coin and get a preowned SRT and still have the fun factor.
5. fit and finish. Is this car built well, as in rattles and the like?

Thank you in advance for any help. Anything else i may need to know or pay attention to when shopping around? I do get that i probably could individually search for everything, but it seems this sub-forum doesn't get as much traffic as other parts so i'd like some updated info. I love the look of the car for sure.

Re: so i'm considering an 09 SRT8....

1. 14-15 is about right; lot depends on the right foot.
2. the stock tires are pretty bad in the snow. if you are going to have to deal with it I would plan on getting some snow tires.
3. 08-10 all had the darker interior, available with OEM Projector headlights. myGIG. you can gop to wkjeeps.com and find all the little details but really not much change from 08-10.
4. IMO any car today needs a extended warranty or be prepared. these are can bus vehicles where there are all sots of sensors and modules that all need to talk to the mother bus. it can be costly. now if you are planning on modding the crap out of it then a warranty may be useless. that said, the grand cherokee in general is at the bottom of the list for reliability. but you do have other factors; the main one is 420 AWD HP right out the box.
5. again; some depends on right foot. if you use it a lot I would do more than the required maintenance to make up for it. the dash and such is rather cheap; same as door panels and such. but its a freaking animal so its easy to overlook that.

anyway hope others will chime in; i dont own one but i read a bit about them so hopefully i gave you good info

Re: so i'm considering an 09 SRT8....

1. How do you drive? From what I have read, 14 is on the top end (12-13 is realistic)
2. IDK exactly, but it all depends on the tire setup you use...a lot of guys run these in bad weather, I will let them chime in
3. 09+ they did some tweaking to the throttle control IIRC, and some minor asthetics
4. maintain it properly and know what you are getting when you purchase it, IMO those are the two most important aspects of buying any used car...low mileage with all svc history FTW
5. its a jeep, there are some rattles. I have some since I added my 15" sub and 20's...but nothing out of the ordinary. F&F is better than my dodge dakota, but does not come close to BMW or Rovers or Audi's etc...

That help? I will let SRT guys chime in...I wanted one but decided not to because of MPG's, color availability and too much power (I know myself and I would get in trouble HAHA)

Re: so i'm considering an 09 SRT8....

1. I seem average around 12 - 13 when driving nice.

2. Not too bad in the snow being AWD, winter tires are a good idea.

3. Yes WK Jeeps for all the info, here you go. http://www.wkjeeps.com/wk_whats_new.htm

4. IMO They are reliable, But I did get the extended warranty.

5. Interior a bit plasticy, but solid. No rattles for me.

Good Luck With the Purchase.

Re: so i'm considering an 09 SRT8....

thanks guys, any more impressions are very welcome. Seems from looking at that website, there really is no change from 09-10. Am i reading that right?
Gas mileage is pretty brutal, lol, but i guess it's not the end of the world. If i'm paying an extra 30-40 bucks a month to me it's worth it if i'm having a blast while driving. I live comfortably enough that it's not really an issue.

I guess the stock tires it comes with really are crap, lol. That seems to be the general jist at least so far.

Re: so i'm considering an 09 SRT8....

93^^
even though the 08s have the upgraded package. it still lacks what the 09,010 has like EVIC commands like 0-60, braking, g force etc. i believe all that didnt make it until ^^

just be careful, the last driver couldve taken it to the track religiously and or did not take care of his car before he sold it. less mileage the better.

Re: so i'm considering an 09 SRT8....

I agree with everyone has said, but it is possible to get a little higher then 14MPG on the highway. Cruise control will be your best friend if you need it. I got 18MPG - 21MPG on a 2,000+ mile trip so it can be done.

Depends on how many hills you're going up and down and if local traffic allows you to use it for an extended period of time.

But yea 12-14MPG sounds more like it - and if you're a new owner I don't think you will be using the cruise control much LOL.

so am i right that there are no differences between 09/10 model year of the car? seems kind of strange to not have any difference at all.

Re: so i'm considering an 09 SRT8....

1.) Anywhere from 13-16 mpg on the Highway is normal but in the city it drops like a rock. LOL

2.) The OEM crapyears are not that great in the snow. If I lived in a place that got a considerable amount of snow, snow tires would def be on the Jeep right now.

3.) 08 was the upgrade for a new front end, black interior, projectors (with opt group 2).

09 got Red Brembo Calipers, Durabrite Finish on the rims (will have db initialed on the wheels), Sirius satilittee tv, and Performance Pages through the EVIC (1/8th mile, 1/4 mile, 0-60, gforce, brake distance)

2010 got nothing new, only thing that changed was that the rear tv was deleted.

4.) So far this Jeep hasnt been in the shop like my 07 Overland was at this point in its life. So I would say its pretty reliable.

5.) You will have rattles here and there, but nothing that's intolerable. Its a Jeep. You will have squeaks. lol
