Wanted to say thanks to the SRT8!

in a nutshell i was almost in a huge car pile up on the thruway coming home from albany yesterday....

disclaimer: no i was not speeding

here i am going 70 75mph on the thruway in the middle lane of the three...

all of a sudden this red lincoln in front of me slams on his breaks but still rear ends this honda van and the van rear ends a some other car right smack in front of me!!
(thank god i never tail gait on the highway nor do i do it in the left lane either)

i quickly slam the brakes and felt id still rear end him so i swerved left into the speed lane. in the process of dipping into the left lane i actually went up on the passenger side and on to the two wheels from the drivers side!!! SHIT WAS VERY SCARY! had to be at least a foot or so up in the air...
the jeep made these weird noises when i went up on two wheels (i was briefly up on two wheels for 1 or 2 seconds) i slammed back to level and kinda fish tailed a lil bit after all four of my wheels touched down back to earth- the sound went away.

i look back in my rear-view mirror and see a huge pile up.

all i got to say is if i was in any other jeep besides a SRT8 then i would not be here today. so i am thankful for the the performance capability it DEFIANTLY EXHIBITED yesterday swerving like that at 75 mph is not something XJ, ZJ, WJ or even a WK could handle. every jeep would flip over with the quickness after that first initial swerve i had to do to avoid the car right in front of me.

any other jeep ill tell ya.. any other jeep...i would not be a live.

who says performance is only good for the track- no pun.

thank you SRT8!

cheers-

Good to know you're ok though dude

Man I can't wait to get an SRT8, but it'll probably be next year. Still it's well worth waiting for.

Re: Wanted to say thanks to the SRT8!

thanks fellas, i def dont want to be in that position again. shit happened soo fast, its unbelievable how it all happened right in front of me. im talking as i swerved i saw debris hit my windshield im guessing from the cars in front of me.

id say from what it looked like in my mirror, prolly 6-7 cars in the crash.

this is the second time ive been in a jeep and had to swerve an accident. the other time was in my ZJ a couple years ago but no where near 75 mph though.

Jeeps save lives! I rolled (actually, bounced) an XJ three times on a busy motorway. If I'd been in a car, no doubt I'd have been crushed.

Re: Wanted to say thanks to the SRT8!

come to think of it, when i slammed on th breaks i acually looked in my mirror "thinking of the people behind me might hit me too"

i dunno how i thought of that during the accident but i clearly remember everything i did in that 10-20 seconds of my life yesterday

It's amazing how much you take in in a situation like that.

Re: Wanted to say thanks to the SRT8!

whewwww glad you're ok and the SRT8 did what it should. The main factor in flipping upon swerving Id say is road height (center of gravity) so I wouldn't say a normal WK or other Jeep would have definitely flipped as there is only a 1" - 1.5" difference (I'm lower than SRT height so I'm not biased lol), but at the same time I don't care to have anyone find out lol.

Personally, I think the bigger the better in todays world just for safety, SUVS and trucks give me much better piece of mind and honestly are much more likely to save you in a big wreck pending your dont roll. Then again many deadly accident involve rollovers in which a car may not have rolled so I guess it depends on the scenario. Regardless, I feel bad for anyone involved, hope no deaths, you see anything on the news/paper? Keep us posted.
