Re: New 2017 compass sport

Update:
After two calls to Uconnect support, their final answer is my phones aren't compatible with Uconnect 5.0. This is really unacceptable. Both of my phones work perfectly with the Uconnect 8.4AN in my JGC. The phones also work with the Uconnect 5.0 in the Compass, after I manually transfer the outgoing or incoming calls. The calls actually connect in the radio, but as soon as they're connected, they transfer to the cellular handset. That is a software glitch, not an incompatible phone. And since they work fine in my other Jeep, the glitch is in the Uconnect 5.0 software. The second Uconnect rep I spoke with agreed that a software update to the Uconnect unit should be able to fix the problem, and she said she would pass the issue along to the techs that can do that. All I can do now is wait for an update to be issued. I'll keep checking the Uconnect update site, but I'm not holding my breath.

Re: New 2017 compass sport

That is disappointing. Bluetooth in cars has been around over 10 years so the fact that you're having issues is really unacceptable. As much as I love Jeep, that would make me think twice about the vehicle purchase.

Re: New 2017 compass sport

One problem I'm also running into concerning this issue is that the Uconnect website page that I keep getting referred to that lists compatible phones for Uconnect systems doesn't list the Uconnect 5.0 system at all. Because of this I can't even replace my phone and be sure that it will work properly. Trials of early adoption. You'd think support would be a little more accommodating to someone buying a new model with new electronics. All I get is, "Your phone is not compatible." I wonder what database support is using to determine that?

Re: New 2017 compass sport

Bluetooth is an ever evolving standard and some of the newer Bluetooth and Bluetooth LE chipsets are dropping some of the older pieces of the standard. Some for security reasons, some for software reasons.

Your grand Cherokee system is older hardware, so it stands to reason it works with older phones. That might not be the case with the new hardware for the 5.0 system

Re: New 2017 compass sport

I can live with those changes if need be, but Uconnect should keep the flow of product information to owners at least as up to date as what they're putting on the road. When a company rep tells me to go to a link for compatibility information that is outdated, and can't give me more updated information, well, that's a disservice to the customer. Aren't these bluetooth devices checked for compatibility? Please make that information available.

Saw Two New 2017 Compass SUV's

Saw two new 2017 Compass SUV's last week during my visit to the local Jeep dealer on other business. First one was a silver 2X4 Sport model and I had to check it out as it looked really good with the black trim. The second one was a white 4X4 Trailhawk version with the red tow hooks and inside red trim. This one I did not like so much....had a gawdy look to it that made it look cheap. Also the tires on this vehicle did not look like they were going to be good for off roading.

Overall I think Jeep will do good with these as they have the same look as the Grand Cherokees but smaller.

Re: New 2017 compass sport

For those who haven't heard yet, there's a recall (kicks off around June 23) for the left front half-shaft. Evidently, only models with a 6 speed transmission are affected.

Re: New 2017 compass sport

I'm assuming, because of the wording of this article, "...equipped with a six-speed transmission...despite being in Park", that this is the "old" '17 Compass, not the 'new" '17 Compass, as the auto tranny in the new model is a 9 speed. Seems like a production error, and not a design flaw. Also, the picture is of the old model.

I really don't understand why they didn't just call all the 'new' model Compasses built and sold in the US '18 model year vehicles. That's what they did with the '14 Grand Cherokees. Mine was built in April of '13, and it's designated a '14. Would save some confusion.

Re: New 2017 compass sport

I could be wrong but I believe the newly designed Sport and Latitude in FWD come with a 6 speed automatic transmission and this recall applies to those models.

You may be correct. That's why I think the model year designations are causing confusion. Also, the picture in the article is of the old style model. Can't find anything on the NHTSA site. Do you have any other source for this recall?

Re: New 2017 compass sport

Yeah, not sure why they used pics of the old model. Here's another article that mentions it.

We'll probably hear more about it June once the recall date is firm.

Thanks for the link. Too bad there's such an early recall, but at least they're on top of it, and no headlines about crashes, etc.
Seems like an assembly error, not a design fault, not good, but should limit number of vehicles.
