Re: 13 second passes in the 5.7 turbo cherokee

New suspension may help... remember this is a stock 5.7, so no SRT products on it.

Re: 13 second passes in the 5.7 turbo cherokee

Tim Im really happy you got your set-up runningas good as u do for u to be running high 13's with just 6psi is great...Correct me if im wrong but 10-15HP per psi is right?? so that puts u in the 60-80 hp power adder range on a bone stock 5.7..Lets put a 80 shot of nitrous on a stock 5.7 see what it runs i bet not a 13.84 lol...

Re: 13 second passes in the 5.7 turbo cherokee

You can't run a CAI or exhaust with the turbo, all of those are built into the system. The ET is going to be down as torque management really forces it to nearly run similar to a stock engine till it goes away. Look at the trap speed, and that tells a different story.

With a good 60ft (not possible with torque management), the ET would actually be down in the mid to low 13 second range for the trap speed it is posting. My trap sped is about 8 mph faster, but the ET is only about .4 better.

Actually, because I am putting down so much more torque, torque manaegment is pulling more power out than on a stock vehicle, so it actually lowers the performance some from what would be expected on a stock setup (the price I pay for the big end, for now).

An improved 60ft would get me into 3rd quicker and give me more run out so the ET and trap speed both would go up.

I still have some tricks up my sleeve to play with on it, as I am running pretty conservative tuning right now.

High 11's are possible on a stock SRT-8 with the turbo, no way on a stock 5.7 engine. High 12's may be doable, but it is going to be on the edge with a stock internals 5.7 engine, definately low 13's in the near future with a few more tweaks.

I had three goals this weekend, first break into the 13's which I did, and find out where the limiting factors were at, that I did also as it is clearly torque management. And lastly, prove the reliability of the setup, which I did there as well.

Without torque management, I would have easily been in the 13.5 second range no problem based on the trap speed.

Re: 13 second passes in the 5.7 turbo cherokee

Here is a log file from the 13.84 run, and it clearly shows what is going on with my tuning.

RED – RPM
GREEN – Stock MAP sensor
DARK BLUE – Stock O2 sensors
Yellow – Internal control MAP sensor
PINK – TPS voltage
LIGHT BLUE – Ignition degrees retard
BLACK – WB AFR

This shows 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear (3rd is 1 to 1 ratio on the 5.7 Cherokee). If you look at the beginning of the RPM line in 1st gear, you can see the sag where torque management is in play, and then it suddenly goes more vertical.

TPS voltage has gone to max indicating a full open throttle blade and it stays flat through the run.

The stock 1 BAR MAP sensor is clamped, so the ECU sees a true WOT signal yet can not see an over range condition from boost.

The stock O2 signal flat lines instantly at boost transition allowing control of tip in fuel and also part throttle boost fuel correction (when not in a WOT condition as shown here).

The light blue line shows the timing retard as boost pressure increases. I am pulling around 3 degrees of timing, but I think that is conservative as I have never seen any spark knock and I can probably back off on the retard a degree or two and pick up a little more power.

The yellow line shows the boost pressures, it is running 4 psi in 1st, 6 psi in 2nd, and 8 psi in 3rd. The pressures are stable so I am not seeing any high end boost falloff, meaning the turbo has sufficient capacity for the setup.

The black line is showing the WB AFR readout. It has plenty of fuel on tip in and the transition from closed to open loop, then it recovers and is right in the power range through the run, relatively flat across the RPM spectrum.

The 3rd gear rpm line shows how much of a gear ratio jump there is in the 5.7 transmission, as it is already in a 1/1 ratio at this point.

All performed running a completely stock factory ECU file with all of my tuning performed by me with the iEMS3 system.
