I have a 98 GC 5.9 which was running fine, then just stalled while I was stopped in traffic. The battery turns the engine over. There aren't any trouble symbols on the dash and my Innova 3030 scanner reads error when I attempt to get a trouble code. The fuel pump seems to be working when I listen to the gas tank. Fuses seem to be fine. Does anyone have any ideas for me?
Welcome to the garage. The error code of the scanner points towards a shorted data bus problem. I would start removing the connector of the crank sensor and see if the communication with the PCM re-establishes. If so, then the crank sensor is shorted. If it doesn´t help, you could do the same for the cam sensor. Worst case could be the PCM itself.
Hi Frank, Thank you for the guidance. You were right about it being a short,
I found it searching for the sensors. The O2 sensor wire had fallen off the
chassie and was chaffed from rubbing up against the driveshaft. I taped it
and attached it to the chassie, problem fixed!! You saved me alot of $$$.
