Exclamation 2000 Jeep GC Laredo 15 month nightmare

Hello Jeep Forum members! Glad to be a member but mad about the reason that lead me to seek it out...after buying a used GC for my teenager, I have had nothing but trouble; in a nutshell it has intermittent dying/starting issues and I know when I first get in it whether it will start or not - if I turn the key to the on position w/o actually trying to crank and none of the gauges move, it is not going to start. Also, I will hear the methodic thumping of the cooling fan as it moves at a rythmic beat. I've replaced fuel pump; relays, all sorts of sensors including most recently the CPS. Aside from running better when it runs, it has not prevented the issues and Jeep has washed it hands of the problem, in essence asking me to pay a minimum of 6 hours labor for them to "explore" the problem. I'm beginning to think that it is the SKIM system. Any ideas would be helpful. I've poured over $2,000 into a $2,000 car and I'm at a loss!

What do you mean "Jeep has washed their hands of the problem"?

This is a 16 year old GC, right?

They have said that they cannot help me identify the issue without me being willing to pay for them to "explore" with no guarantee of resolution. Not sure what your point is about the age of the Jeep. It's only got 124K miles and in its life it has been plagued with issues...It has been a design flaw from the beginning I have no doubt!

Oh OK then, you should be all set.

Since it's a design flaw you'll find plenty of people here who no doubt experienced the problem.

Some of them could probably advise you what needs to be done to get Jeep to pay for the repair your 2000 Grand Cherokee at no charge.

I sure hope so GlowingGoul; I was about ready to scrap the car and buy another used one for my son, but I don't feel like the consumer should have to take the hit for a problem that is clearly Jeep's issue.

Welcome. You will get more responses by posting in the electrical or engine forum on the main menu. More folks subscribe to those. There are some good mechanics cruising around here. Be sure to include which engine you are working on. Best of luck.
