2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Sunroof not closing

Hi. I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited with a messed up sunroof. I say messed up because it won't close flully on the first couple of times. You hit the close button and it gets about an inch from closing and reopens to around 5 inches and stops me. You hit the button and it does it several times again but stops each time before you hit the button again. It took me 5 times the last time to get it to close fully then flushed and seals like it is supposed to. Any ideas on what's wrong? Could it be a sensor issue that may notice like say a finger and reopens as a safety feature??

It can be that the EFL (excessive force limitation)function needs to be calibrated. See attached pages for the procedure.
If that doesn´t help, then you will have to look for any damage or any obstructions in the mechanism.

Thank you. That's exctually what it's doing except it's not opening fully upon noticing example said pencil. I'll try that in the am when I change the headlight assemblies. Thank you

Just a FYI the Excessive force limitation would not reset. However I found the issues. It is the metal wire the hooks into the plastic visor that pops up when the sunroom opens. It was hitting it and then reopening. I went ahead and oiled the track and silicones the said wire and the sunroof starting working normally again.
