Question 2006 3 litre crd Grand Cherokee

Hi to you all.
I have had my Jeep for 3 weeks and love it. I do however have a question for anyone with more knowledge than myself regarding the water temperature reading. My gauge always sits between the 1/2 and 3/4 mark. I have owned Mercedes powered diesels for many years and they have always sat a notch below the 1/2 mark. Have had the system checked and no leaks found. New thermostat has been fitted but the gauge still sits as before. Read somewhere that Chrysler had a fix to recalibrate the temperature gauge on the 2.7 litre diesel but can't find anything on the 3 litre. Next step will be to replace the sensor, water pump and expansion tank cap unless anyone can guide me in a different direction. Apologies if this seems a trivial question but would welcome any input.

That does seem unusually high if you are not towing or driving in hot weather. A stuck open egr valve could cause high temperatures but i would expect some other error code. Have you checked it over with an obd2 code reader? The dealer diagnostic computer would be needed to read the egr.

This may sound silly but it could be the temperature sensor. It could also be an air bubble trapped in your cooling system or it could be a clogged radiator. All those possibilities are not specific to the diesel jeep.

Re: 2006 3 litre crd Grand Cherokee

Thanks again Suzieque. Have today purchased an obd2 meter which should arrive Tuesday. Will check any fault codes before getting local Jeep garage involved. Had the radiator flushed when the new thermostat was fitted. The reason I thought it may be the gauge giving an incorrect reading is that when I first start the car from cold the temperature gauge flickers and sits just above the cold position immediately. The gauge then rises very quickly to a position between the 1/2 and 3/4 segment but never rises any further even after 250 mile drive. Weather here in the UK is only around 7 degrees (centigrade) The car has covered 78,000 miles so perhaps needs some TLC.
