When the mechanic replaced the radiator and didnīt see that the radiator hose was bad, then he is a bad mechanic. A hose just doesnīt go bad so quickly by itself. Or it was already dried out and he didnīt care about it, or he damaged the hose during replacement of the radiator. This being said, it is always a good idea when replacing the radiator, to also replace the radiator hoses, thermostat and radiator cap.
I just wonder if the mechanic really needed to replace the radiator, or that the waterpump was the troublemaker in the first place.
I hope that the engine didnīt overheat, because that could cause many other problems to the engine.
