Red face 2006CommanderHemi coolant problem

Help! I love my Jeep and know zero about engines. Just took my Jeep to the shop with a loud roaring noise under the hood. He said the radiator was leaking and replaced it, and replaced the condenser as well. $600. On the way home steam started pouring from under the hood and roaring fan again - drove it there, opened hood, coolant spraying. He said the upper hose now had a hole in it (not caused by him?) charged me $200 more. Then on way home same roaring sound, reservoir empty, coolant leaking on ground. Now he says the water pump has to be replaced - $580. All in one week, and he says none of the problems were caused by anything he did - just bad parts and bad timing. This kind of odds would win me PowerBall. Any advice from guys who know about this stuff? I love my Jeep and this guy knows I will spend whatever it takes to fix it. Does this sound real to you?

I am new to this forum. Time to find a repair shop you can trust, either they are lousy mechanics or thieves.

That is my gut feeling. He insists one repair has nothing to do with the other. Can you give me a reasonable sounding answer rejecting his claim that one repair is not related to the other to tell him tomorrow when I pick up my Jeep? And how does the hemi effect this? Thank you for taking the time to help me.

Re: 2006CommanderHemi coolant problem

When the mechanic replaced the radiator and didnīt see that the radiator hose was bad, then he is a bad mechanic. A hose just doesnīt go bad so quickly by itself. Or it was already dried out and he didnīt care about it, or he damaged the hose during replacement of the radiator. This being said, it is always a good idea when replacing the radiator, to also replace the radiator hoses, thermostat and radiator cap.
I just wonder if the mechanic really needed to replace the radiator, or that the waterpump was the troublemaker in the first place.
I hope that the engine didnīt overheat, because that could cause many other problems to the engine.

Re: 2006CommanderHemi coolant problem

the engine didn't overheat - at least the temp gauge didn't go up - and the engine light didn't go on - it was just a loud roaring noise from the fan and the reservoir kept emptying. And there was a fluid sprayed on the right side near the front the first time this all happened and he said it was the radiator. And every time I ask a question he just yells at me that he's already explained that it's the cooling system. So should I just pay him the 580 or whatever the total will be tomorrow for the new waterpump and then just find a new mechanic? Thank you so much. My dad would thank you too for helping me.

Did the mechanic show you the parts which where failing according him? For sure i would look for an other mechanic after this episode, but i would not accept to pay the full costs which he is claiming. The radiator hose at least he should have seen when changing the radiator and it all looks to suspicious to be true. I would try to get a good discount over the three items that he replaced.
