BackInBlack - Plano (DFW Area), TX
Bought a 2012 Overland 4x4 just after Thanksgiving. Now has 2100 miles. Love the truck. Using the name BackInBlack because this is my second black four wheel drive, after taking a break for a while. I've had several cars in the mineral grey color, decided to go back to black - love Jeep's metallic flake black color.
My Overland is fully optioned out - basically it has every Summit option plus the Offroad Adventure package, and minus the rear seat entertainment (my kids watch too much TV already) and minus the saddle interior (really not my color).
I am a convert over from Rover, Mercedes and Volkswagen. I picked the GJC Overland because I liked the looks, wanted to try a Jeep, and a comparably equipped ML Diesel was going to cost just under 70,000. That's Nuts! Both cars derived from same platform! Then I saw mostly soccer moms driving MLs and that cinched it. My Overland was an awesome deal. I do wish I had the diesel mileage, but it will take years for that cost to offset. I couldnt see ever off roading the Merc or the VW Tourag (which is particularly poor on options and high on cost), and I couldnt justify the value or the gas mileage on the LR4. The Jeep just won in every category.
Other black 4x4 I owned was a Land Rover Range Rover 4.6 (2000). Was terrible quality. Interior parts would just fall off in your hand. Air springs were total nightmare (hope I dont jinx myself).
Other Land Rovers I owned were actually quite good, including a 2003 Discovery SE (great on and off road) and my expedition-ready 1991 Range Rover Classic (still have that one, not so nice on-road, but unstoppable off-road).
Saw a lot of Wranglers out at Barnwell Mountain, OK and a few Grand Cherokees. Always saw a lot of comraderie in the Jeep folk, which was also a selling point. Although I wont be off roading my 2012 on anyting more than light trails run for a few years, I do consider myself part of the Jeep and Mopar family now. After all - I drive a Hemi!
Hobbies: Car restoration (1991 Range Rover, and current project ground up resto-mod of 1968 Cadillac DeVille Convertible into a 700 HP street & show BEAST).
