Blend door gear and actuator issues

2012 Jeep Overland, blend door on passengers side inoperative (broken gear). Purchased gear and aligned it so the gear can completely travel to fully open and close the door. But the actuator splines don't line up with the gear and pins. I read somewhere that it may need to be calibrated. If so how can this be done.
