Buying a new 2016 Cherokee Trailhawk soon

Hi everyone. I am looking to buy a new 2016 Cherokee Trailhawk in the next few days or weeks. I will be towing it behind my motorhome. It will be replacing an old Chevy S10 Blazer 4x4.

I have been digging through the literature and around the web trying to answer my questions, especially about what options I want, before I figure out exactly what I want and start talking to dealers.

What a great site! Lots of good answers. I will have some questions too.

Get the bigger engine. Must.

Tow package. Good

Tech and safety. Good.

Others are more personal choice.

Jeepcherokeeclub.com would be a good place to look. Many more KLs and a ton of info about them. I think they have the trans issues worked out for 2016??? But check that site..... Many including me lost there hind end because of faulty transmissions

I have read about the transmission issues, and I really don't want to buy any problems like that! I did read somewhere that it was a software issue, and they resolved it in 2015. That is one chance I don't like having to take.

I will get the bigger engine. But in 2016, it only comes with ESS, Electric Stop and Start. I don't know about that. Every car I have test driven it has not worked. Error messages about fuel too low, or battery not charged enough for ESS to work. If I were a paranoid, I might think they have figured out how to disable it, so you can't test it.

I will get the tow package. I hope the lower axle ratio will feel ok and not hurt gas mileage etc. I think with the 9 speed transmission, it wouldn't matter at higher speeds.

I don't think I will get the Safety Tec Group.

Wife wants Leather Interior Group. I need to check if it is really different than the standard seats on the Trailhawk.

I want the Comfort/Convenience Group, especially for keyless start and power seats. With the cost of key fobs, remote start might come in handy.

I guess I need the Uconnect 8.4 Nav, so that I can have gps. I heard I can activate 8.4 without Nav for $595, but I might as well get the longer subscriptions and travel for the $845.
