Engine Oil Consumption on WK2 Diesel

Hi I'm a new member and bought my first Jeep (Grand Cherokee Limited Diesel) and although the car is great it has used 6 litres (yes six) of engine oil in 1,800 miles. I am going back to the garage tomorrow but wondered if any other members have this problem.

Re: Engine Oil Consumption on WK2 Diesel

there is no sign of a leak - not a drop on garage floor. The car is booked in for checking at the dealers (Kings Teesside) tomorrow. Will let you all know the results, I just hope they find something and have a fix....

Re: Engine Oil Consumption on WK2 Diesel

Can't believe it - my engine oil was overfilled by me !! Dealer drained off excess oil FOC and also installed three software updates. What has happened (and I have seen a similar thread on here which will be my next stop) is that when you withdraw the dipstick the oil level looks low because the oil gets scraped off the dipstick in the bend from the sump. When you put the dipstick back in and withdraw again it looks overfilled and you think it is because of oil being transferred from the dipstick to the bend ! i have owned many vehicles over 35 years and never been unable to read the dipstick - I will now change my login name to "Dipstick" !! But a relief that there is no real trouble with the WK2.
