First Post - possible new Overland purchase

In my best Dr. Nick voice, "Hi everybody!"

I thought I'd introduce myself while I lurk here. We are currently looking for a new vehicle for my wife. She had her heart kind of set on an AWD Cadillac SRX. On a whim we stopped to look at a new Grand Cherokee Overland last weekend. As I am sure would be no surprise to anyone here, we came away very impressed. What a nice vehicle! I've never really followed Jeeps, or any Chrysler products for that matter, but I've spent the past few days learning as fast as I can. The local dealer was not incredibly impressive in his knowledge of the vehicle.

Me: "Yeah, hi, we'd like to take a look at a JGC Overland with the V6."
Him: "You can't get the Overland with the V6. That comes with the V8."
Me: "Really? You see that red one out there? Yeah, next to the white one? Yeah. That's an Overland and it has the V6."
Him: "Oh. Uh.... how about I go get the keys and we'll take a look at it?"

Despite all that... we really liked the Jeep.

We've got a few more vehicles to check out this up coming weekend, but I think the JGC is definitely the leading candidate at this point. At $6500 less than the SRX - it seems like a pretty decent deal.

Anyway, with any luck, in a couple of weeks I might be able to say I am an actual owner. In the mean while I'll be doing lots of reading and staying out of everybody's way!

Cheers!

Re: First Post - possible new Overland purchase

We had the first generation SRX and it's leaps and bounds better than the new one, IMO. The new version is smaller than the Grand Cherokee so I'm not sure how big an SUV you're shopping for but the SRX is still a nice vehicle with decent looks. Welcome to the site and I'm not surprised about the dealer's knowledge. When I looked at the '11 the dealer told me that they didn't have and v8 Jeeps on the lot so I test drove what I thought was a v6 until we got back and I noticed the dual exhaust. Let me say that I was SOLD on the six until I found out the obvious, I've yet to drive a v6 but I'm sure from what I've read that they're plenty capable.

Re: First Post - possible new Overland purchase

Thanks. I think you're the first person to ever indicate you liked the older SRX over the new one, but that's cool. You're right - rear seat head room is a concern for us with the SRX. That being said, we don't need a gigantic car. My wife wants something with 4 or all wheel drive, that "sits up high" so she can "see well." I've definitely got an eye towards gas mileage, so as much as I'd like the V8, I think a V6 is in our future. Our test drive indicated the V6 wasn't terrible. It will never win any drag races, but for around town cruising it should do just fine.

Re: First Post - possible new Overland purchase

Haha I guess I am, I just never liked the downsized SRX, I guess GM's plan was to make it smaller to separate it from the Escalade... not sure though. But the new SRX was just too small and it wasn't available yet when the lease was up so now there's a RX350 in the stable.
