First time Jeep owner...going domestic
I got rid of the 2005 Subaru Outback XT that I really enjoyed for the past five years. With a lot of research (and a bit of hesitation) I bought a 2012 JGC Limited 5.7 with the ORAII package.
I haven't owned a domestic vehicle since college, and I'm hoping I won't soon regret my choice. I've had Nissan, Honda, and Subaru, all great vehicles in their own respect. Living in Colorado and enjoying the mountains, the AWD on the Subaru, and the fact it was a wagon, made it one of my favorite vehicles.
I don't really like what Subaru is making now. The Outback is almost an SUV, and they dropped the turbo. WRX was too small for gear I sometimes haul, and it sure wasn't going to pull much of a trailer.
I've obviously sacrificed some gas mileage, although the Outback wasn't that great (at least I get to buy regular fuel now); and I sometimes miss having a manual and a turbo. At least I'll be able to get up to some of the more out-of-the-way places in Colorado that the Subie would never handle.
All things considered, the quality feel of the new JGC is in another league compared to almost every other recent domestics I've driven, in my opinion. Not everything is perfect (that finicky RHR radio), but switchgear, interior quality, ride quality, seating...everything feels well put together. I can only hope that it holds up as well, if well cared for, as my previous vehicles have.
I've only put about 1000mi on it so far, and I hope to have many more. While I'm a little hesitant to bash it down a narrow trail, I still hope to take it off the paved roads to places I'd never have taken any of my previous vehicles; I wanted the skid-plates and 4WD for a reason, not just to say I have them. I know it's no Wrangler, but I'm no soccer mom.
I'm glad to see such a vibrant forum community for any vehicle I own. Glad to be a new member of the JeepGarage.
