Greetings from Texas (the best state in the union)!
I've been a lurker for quite some time and decided to create an account and participate in the madness.
I live somewhere between San Antonio and Austin. I'm a family man and a Jeep nut. I have owned several Jeeps but currently I own:
2010 Jeep Commander 4X4 Limited HEMI
2006 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon
The Commander is the family vehicle with its smooth ride, 3 row seating, and factory DVD entertainment system. This beast is by far the coolest and most functional family-mobile. I drove in a Chevrolet Equinox from my current city all the way to right outside of St. Louis to purchase this bad boy. I was lucky enough to find it optioned exactly how I wanted it and was actually quite pleased to learn that it was a Chrysler CPO, which means it came with a great warranty. I traded in the Equinox and drove the Commander back immediately after... well, I did stop one, for some excellent Chinese food. I drove 15 hours there, spent 2 hours at the dealership, ate, and drove 15 hours back. Yowzer!
The Rubicon is considered "my" vehicle. It has a six speed manual transmission mated to what I believe to be the best engine that was ever used in a Wrangler. I spent almost half a year hunting down this vehicle as I was very particular as to what I wanted as I plan on keeping it forever and passing it down to my son. It had to be a 2006 (last year of the TJ/LJ) and it had to have a late build date. I required the manual tranny, hard top, and factory premium sound system. I purchased it on Craigslist from Las Vegas and had it shipped sight-unseen to my front door. It was exactly as described (near mint) and has had every bit of service done, including new brakes, tires, shocks, water pump/thermostat, and every fluid.
I plan to keep both of these Jeeps forever unless something catastrophic happens. I feel I've got the best of both worlds that Jeep has to offer. From the spaciousness of the Commander and its beefy HEMI to the utilitarian ruggedness of what I consider the most capable out of the box Wrangler ever manufactured.
