Here in Brazil i pay around USD 1000 for the road tax a year (4.7/ 2004), but then still we have to pay a lot of road toll as well. The government very cleverly first made the highways with the tax money from the people, then sold the highways to private companies (and where the money went to, nobody knows anymore) and now we have to pay high road tolls. For me highways are there, so that people can go from A to B for work or pleasure, but here they made it a way of making (big) money.
Gasoline cost here around USD 1.30 a liter and diesel USD 1.10. (so still quite ok)
They mix around 25 % of alcohol in the gasoline overhere.
