Hello all, 08 CRD dealer repair out of this world

I joined this forum yesterday because someone had posted a CRD Manual which was very helpful and informative, I would like to return the favour by offer what little experience Ive had with my repairs as feed back.

The story behind this is I have a GC Overland with 138000km, brought to dealer that I normally go to because of 'ETC' flashing on dash. Did some minor research on the forums and found swirl motor a common issue for P2015 code. Rec'd a call later that day and advised over $15000 dollars to repair, no other options. UGH!!! What to do. Called back and said leave it and picked it up. There were two other codes P1270 and P0046 which my cheapo OBD 2 reader didn't pick up. Anyways, found a Mercedes Mechanic that offered to look at and still waiting for his diagnostic.

What appears to be a common issue I simply can't believe a dealer would leave a customer hanging like this. Love Jeeps, past three vehicles were Cherokee and grand cherokee's, looking forward to commenting further on this forum regarding repairs. $15000 really! I believe that means were not interested in repairing...what have I done to deserve this. Chrylser Canada offered no assistance, hopefully don't have to part out.

What did they say needed to be done that adds up to $15K?

Re: Hello all, 08 CRD dealer repair out of this world

they were somewhat vague and was told through service adviser (not mechanic) mentioned possible oil in wiring harness giving transient signals, possible transmission removal, easily 30+ hrs labour...etc. Everything worked fined prior to ETC light flashing, Jeep went into limp mode which I had heard about before so wasn't surprised. What did surprise me was the lack of consideration and investigation to verify codes. Did charge me $190 for the diagnostic though, I understand they can't do things for free but just adds salt to wound. I dunno maybe its all true.

Granted I have little experience with this swirl motor issue and elephant hose oil leak (only from what was read on forums) but you would think if this was common issue why not call in to re mediate before it gets to this. I'm pulling at straws here only because I'm still in shock, we'll see what the mercede's mechanic has to offer. I'll post as soon as I know.

I think they have no idea what's wrong, and don't want the job.

But that's just cynical me.

Re: Hello all, 08 CRD dealer repair out of this world

Hi Tom, yes that was the consensus around here. I'm a little more at ease after reviewing other posts with CRD Jeeps having same issue. I love the Jeep and will ask mechanic for unbiased opinion as to whether its a ticking time bomb or whether once repaired would be good for the long haul. I drive out of town a lot and just the thought if this kinda thing happens in a remote location doesn't offer much comfort, albeit thanks to the programmers at least keeping the vehicle mobile on limp mode. I would like to let the readers know that I love the GC, quadra drive II drive train and have faith in the diesel motor despite this hiccup, hopefully I can maintain my loyalty to the brand. Looks like its time to put coveralls on because the dealer and Chrysler Customer un Care Canada has now completely lost my confidence.

When this is all fixed I might have to eat my words in that perhaps it is 30+ hours labour and components costs worth over 15k. Such a shame as I am in customer service and believe in treating customers exactly opposite to the way this Chryser and the dealer has blown me off on this well posted and known deficiency. What the heck its off warrantee what else could I expect anyways.

Swirl motor delete, plug and play - solves ALL your problems. $31.25 - fixes those stupid expensive stealership repair problems.

Web search: shibby engineering swirl motor sim plug.

Re: Hello all, 08 CRD dealer repair out of this world

Thanks Jason, hard to believe a $32 part can fix my problem but certainly will look into to see why. I always seem to want to go the proper engineered route so I keep engine operating as designed, however I don't have the bucks nor the knowledge to know if this resistor is long term fix or does it shorten the life of the DPF? Probably DPF will need to be replaced anyway so that adds to the aggravation. I know there are some pretty smart diesel guys out there that know what they can do and what they shouldn't. It just seems most performance mods rarely pertain to the 3.0 CRD Mercedes. I thought this was an award winning engine engineered to Mercedes level of standard. I obviously need to get my head out the ground and realize there is a flaw in this design. I have a mechanic (formerly a Mercedes mechanic) looking into and will advise him of your suggestion. I also heard that Mercedes did a recall to repair their engines but Chrysler didn't entertain this, not sure if true or just internet buzz jargon

I should just bite the bullet and get a DPF delete EGR delete and Swirl mot delete and be done with this but have a feeling every one will know its a diesel and smell like one.
