Hello I am James from East Coast Central Florida and I have owned a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Hemi 2WD with Saddle Interior since new in December 2010.
I figure I better join since I plan on keeping my Jeep for at least another 3 to 4 years having just paid the sucker off and as our family has owned many Jeeps in the past I know as they get along in age that its good to share ones knowledge on these vehicles.
As for me since I have owned the 2011 in Blackberry that the only major failure has been the Master Brake booster failure that the dealer replaced for free several years ago even before the Recall came out.
Since buying the 2011 I have recently replaced the tireds with the OEM 20" Goodyear Fortera' HL's and Yes I don't drive it as much as it only has 42K miles on it. But Florida roads and heat does take toll on tires here.
I did luck out after 2013 got them to replace entire dash free under warranty as it was warping and now I always use the windshield sun reflector to keep the hot sun off of the dash.
Also when I first got this jeep after rains at night, noticed in morning the water would drip in from the eyeglasses storage compartment. I knew it was the sunroof seal possibly not seating and car is so well sealed that if you slam your doors watch the sunroof bulge up from air compression which must of been letting in water when we would get rains for days on end. Funny Dealer wanted to replace the whole front windshield saying that is where the water leak is coming from. I said No~! and never had it replaced and its never leaked anywhere since. I have the single sunroof with DVD mounted behind it. Did not want the longer sunroof as I did not like that curtain flopping around in the wind when windows down. One thing I did miss that I have is rear window down mega ear throb buffeting noise! I have since learned to know how to equalize that throughout the Jeep while driving.
Also~ You jeep owners should drive with headlights ON because if ya don't you will find your Daytime Driving Lights DTDL will start to melt your headlight enclosures and even start to burn up bulb fixture. I missed the boat on this since Jeep was out of 3 year Warranty when I noticed after having to replace one of the DTR Lights and plan on replacing them with LED as long as they don't screw with the electrical system.
Been fixing up a 2002 jeep and possibly get a used 2012 for another family member.
My brothers own JEEPS, and in past many Challengers including a white limited SRT with the blue stripes. He is thinking of the Hellcat now Oh Boy~! My other brother is into the Dodge Trucks and has owned several of them currently a RED 1500 RAM
One big complaint from Older family member on the Newer JEEPS is the Shifter with the thumb button on top she is my mother 87 who moves about like she is 67 and wont budge from Jeep but the new ones she cannot use the newer shifter since she has Arthritis and its worst on her thumb. Why Jeep Did this~! sheesh I Hope 2016 they change or go back to a non button shifter Kind of reminds me of the ole Honda Accords and Acura Legends that had this on the shifters.
I have had experience working on cars and my brother is a Mechanic so I hope to help out here and also learn about problems with the newer Jeeps and anything to look out for.
I know this jeep did not do well with the shalom road tests where it was deemed dangerous to roll over but I would take my chances with this jeep over the earlier jeeps that's for sure. Very sure footed
So far so good
