Hello--first post and ???

Hello to all. First post, so please, be gentle. I have a 2002 Grand Limited. Just got it a few months ago and love it so far. My problem is this--we had freezing weather out here in Sacto. Valley last week. A somewhat rare occurance for us. My wife tryed to roll down the driver's side door when it was still frozen. Now, none of the windows work. I could not find a fuse for power windows. Could this be a module problem? But why would all the windows quit?

Re: Hello--first post and ???

thanks for the welcome! I need to update my ?. The other windows do work. I can hear the motor inside the drivers door working, but window does not move. I have taken off the panel, and it appears that the window is still in its cradle. Is there a way to remove the 'inside' half of the door to get to the window motor?

Re: Hello--first post and ???

Well that happened to me the other day. My Window didn't roll down. Check the fuse box under the steering wheel column and there is another one under the hood. Check those. Keep us posted.

Welcome to the Garage!

Well, since you said the window is still in the cradle, that means that the glass isn't just stuck and the arm is still moving up and down on it's own, I've had that happen to me. My first guess would be that maybe the motor burnt out. Before I bought my '00 WJ, the driver's side window would not roll down either. I would push the button and I could here the motor whirring but it was shot. I had the dealership replace it for me before I bought it and it works just fine now.

Re: Hello--first post and ???

had this problem in my WJ two times! You will need a new window regulator system from what I read your motor is still running and what has happened is there is a wire pulley system that has some plastic components that are not worth a damn and break easily...like I said I had the problem twice, first time it was cheaper for my to buy a whole extra door and pulled the motor and assembly out, the next time the jeep was up for sale and I rigged it to work...the day after i sold the jeep it broke on the new owner also so I would suggest just getting a new one...only problem they don't sell just the pulley and track system it is all in one with the motor

Re: Hello--first post and ???

I have replaced my window regulator on my 04. These regulators are notorious for going out and are very expensive from dodge/jeep dealers. I got mine from NAPA (half the price as jeep dealer) and it had more metal then the stock unit. Usually when these go bad your window will just fall down into the door.

Re: Hello--first post and ???

Since you mentioned that the windows is still in the cradle and hasnt fallen yet that means the power window cable block hasnt cracked yet. I would check the window regulator. And heres a link for you to get to the regulator. Good luck man, and keep us posted!

Re: Hello--first post and ???

Welcome....and it seems like everyone has given the right advice! I had to replace mine at the dealer about 2 years ago, because of cold and rain. $300 down the drain...
