Hello from michigan

Hi all, new to this site (obviously).

Just got my third Jeep. Had a '78 CJ-7 304 V8 in the 80's (3 inch lift 33X 12.50's), a 2 Door XJ in the 90's (3 inch lift 31X 10.50's), and now for the 21st century, an '04 Grand Cherokee Overland. Looking forward to fiddle farting with it, to make it a bit more "capable".

Right now, trying to resolve, from what I am finding out, the very common Quadra Drive drive train growl in tight turns.

Re: Hello from michigan

Welcome to the garage.
The growl in tight turns is most probably lack of limited slip additive in the differential.

Yeah I'm Finding that out. I did a fluid change with Royal purple, and she is still growling. Some say add more modifier, and some say I don't need to. I did hear, to do a bunch more figure 8s to work it , maybe I'll do that and see what happens.

Yes, to get the fresh fluid with additive into the clutch pack of the vari-lok, you will need to do several figure 8, as tight as possible. If that doesn´t help, i would add some more friction modifier. Do you know how much of the additive was mixed into the Royal Purle?

Re: Hello from michigan

Just came back from the high school parking lot. Did a bunch off tight right and left turns (people probably think I'm nuts). Started out quiet, got loud, then quieted down. So far so good.
Not sure how much modifier in on the RP juice, just says it has it for ALL limited slips.

Re: Hello from michigan

I heard from others using premixed fluid having problems alike. If the noise returns, i would just add a bit more of additive and try again.

Re: Hello from michigan

Yeah I've noticed that too. Everyone is experiencing a variety of scenarios.

One guy says use Redline, one says RP, one says Amzoil. I decided RP, being Advance sells it, and 30 percent off helps the bank book nicely. I also heard a lot of positives about RP too. It's kind of cool, how it is actually purple in color.

I'll see how she does in the next few days.If it starts growling again, I'll add a bit of the magic Mopar growl b gone.
