HELLO from NORTH CAROLINA

Hello Everyone,

I am new to forums. I have a question. My check engine light came on the other day and this morning my jeep started running weird. As I was pushing the gas to accelerate the rmp's rev'd up but then the needle dropped back down. My speed was increasing but seemed sluggish. Can anyone give me an idea of what it could be before I take it to a shop to get checked out.

Re: HELLO from NORTH CAROLINA

Welcome to the garage.
Which jeep/engine do you have? When the check engine light comes on, then the PCM (powertrain control module) has set a fault code(s). You can check the codes by doing the keydance (depending on the year of your jeep): Ignition switch OFF/RUN three times and leave in RUN at the third time. The odometer shows "DONE" when no faults, or the fault code(s). Let us know which codes you have to give you a better idea what is going on.

Re: HELLO from NORTH CAROLINA

Thank you for the warm welcome. I am a first time jeep owner and I love my jeep. I have a 2009 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 4 door with a 3.6L V6 engine. I'm going to take to autozone to have the put it on a machine to see what code it shows.

Re: HELLO from NORTH CAROLINA

What is the code you have? Besides the O2 sensor itself, it could also be wiring related or even the O2 heater fuse.

Re: HELLO from NORTH CAROLINA

I took my jeep to Autozone the tested the codes and only the O2 code showed up. We are going to change out the O2 sensor and see if that works. Thank you for the help Frango100.

Re: HELLO from NORTH CAROLINA

There are several codes for the O2 sensors. At least i would check the O2 heater fuse and check the wiring if its not touching any metal part (especially the exhaust parts) before buying a new sensor.
