I have an 04' Grand Cherokee SE. I am the original owner and it has only 85K miles on it. As this Jeep is in pretty solid shape and I really don't want a monthly payment right now, I thought I'd spruce the old gal up a bit and get some new wheels and rubber. I just did the brakes, shocks and control arms.
The clear on the OE wheels is shot and I am going to invest a few bucks in some nice aftermarket wheels and upgraded rubber. I've always felt that the OE tires were way too thin for the vehicle; since I am updating the wheels/tires I thought I would upsize as big as possible without modding the suspension.
I am going to upsize the wheels to either 17" or 18" (current OE size 225/75/16) and my question is what would be the max width tire I could use for either wheel diameter? I understand that to go above the 17" diameter I would have to lower the tire profile. I don't go off-road with this vehicle.
I was given the max "book size" from a local tire dealer for a 17" rim of 235/65/17. I wonder if I can go to a 245 in the 17" and how wide would the rim need to be...8"? As well I'd like the same info for the 18" wheel as well.
Thanks in advance guys!
