Re: (help!) New Member from GA with a WJ

Thank you. Im going to do that now and if the PCM is bad Im going to check the connections inside the PCM and hope for a bad solder point. I'll post an update in the morning with results!

No, that is not the one. Maybe attached drawing helps to find it.

Re: (help!) New Member from GA with a WJ

Ok I think I found the shorting cap. When i unplugged it all my insturment warning lights ca,e on (airbag light back on along with abs and check engine lights) fuel and rpm gauge stopped working entirely but the car ran fine. One thing I have notced tho is that every time I hit the throttle and release, the RPMs at idle increase. Is it possible that the air to fuel ratio is getting so messed up i'm having to wait until all the gas has evaporated from the engine before i can crank it up again. Does it even work like that?

Re: (help!) New Member from GA with a WJ

Yes, that is the diagnostic junction port. It is normal that all the instruments stopped working and the instrument warning lights come on, because the instument panel lost the input from the data bus.
Is there any difference in the way it runs? How was the idle?
Does the idle gradually increase after pressing the accelerator? Does it finally idle at 2000 rpm again?
Does it still eventually shut down?

Re: (help!) New Member from GA with a WJ

When I reset the PCM it idles normal. Around 700 rpms then each time I press the throttle and release the idle rises more and more. So for instance the first time I press the throttle and release it idles at 1000 rpms the next time 1200 and so on and so forth until it's idleing at about 2000rpms. And i wasn't able to get it to stall but then again I didn't actually test drive it. I should add the car stalls whenever it feels like it after its warmed up. It's never stalled before it was at normal operating temperature. But as far as I could tell it ran the exact same.

Re: (help!) New Member from GA with a WJ

You really need a scanner now to check what the TPS is doing. It can be that the TPS is faulty and let the rpm increase. If the TPS is steady (11-12%), then most probably the PCM is bad.
You donīt have an android phone?

No sir, I have an iPhone. Are any auto parts stores equipped with live scan capable tools?

Re: (help!) New Member from GA with a WJ

Iīm not from the USA, but i believe that stores like autozone have a scanner.
I believe that the torque app is also available for iPhone. How did you reset the PCM memory without the use of a scanner? With the torque app you can see the fault codes, reset them and see live data. A very handy tool when you want to maintain your jeep yourself.

Reset PCM memory by disconnecting battery ground for twenty seconds. I'm going to look into that torque app.

Re: (help!) New Member from GA with a WJ

So I just ordered a live data capable scanner and it will be here Saturday! At this point I don't think I can do much more without it. I'll post an update when I've been able to check the TPS % and see what the PCM is doing.

Re: (help!) New Member from GA with a WJ

The TPS was steady at 12.9%. The first scan she idled at about 2000 rpm before finally coming down to 700 rpm after about 10 min and ran steady. (Never died once) So I reset the codes and the check engine light hasn't come back on and the abs light went off. She ran great for about an hour after I reset the codes but then it stalled twice within 20 min. Each time it started right back up, the check engine light hasn't come back on and the gauges didn't die this time. I'm officially stumped?
