Smile Heya guys...and one question?

New to the forum, and just wanted to intro myself, say hi to ya all, and hope that the Jeep is running smooth! I have one general question. I bout my JGC I bought only a couple weeks ago, and I can't find anywhere if fully synthetic oil is recommended for the 3.6 V6 (Pentastar) or even what grade of oil it was delivered with? I have always used a premium fully synthetic, and just need to know if I should continue? Viscosity is obvious, but any help out there if someone has the time. Cheers, and again great to meet you all! P.S as the OZ Loredo's seem to be much more highly spec'd than the American brother.

I don't know if you can go to the For Owners section at Jeep SUVs & Crossovers | Official Jeep Site | Jeep and get a hard copy of the Owners Manual, being on the wrong side of the equator... it is worth a try as it is handy.

The 3.6 uses SAE 5W-20, as does the Hemi. This should be on the filler cap.
You can use synth or synth blend. Neither comes with it and neither needs it, but
some of us do it anyway out of love.

"We recommend you use API Certified SAE 5W-20 Engine Oil, meeting the
requirements of Chrysler Material Standard MS-6395. Refer to your engine
oil filler cap for correct SAE grade."

IIRC Mopar is using Pennzoil as factory fill or dealer. They stock Pennzoil Platinum here for folks willing to spend the few extra bucks for full synth upgrades/swaps.

Yes, I know it is not needed. But then neither are flowers for your missus.

Thanks heaps for that Istowell, or old geezer...whatever you're in the mood for today. Your help has been great, and thanks for clearing up what they use in the factory. You have been great, and I wish you the best mate. Happy Jeeping, and take care out there. Many thanks, Beno.

Re: Heya guys...and one question?

Beno, I too have been using premium synthetic engine oils for years, and I initially chose Mobil 1 for my '13 V6. Then I discovered that M1 does NOT meet Chrysler's Material Spec.-6395, so I changed to Castrol Edge with Syntec Power Technology, known formerly as Castrol Syntec...5W-20, of course.

I suggest you run the original fill 3 - 4000 miles before changing...unless you too are compulsive and obsessive about engine oil like me. I drained my original fill at about 1000 miles and then the Mobil 5000 at about 1800 miles before filling with M1. Then about 3500 miles I got the Castrol SPT into it.

Castrol Synth and Pennzoil Synth seem a good fit.

My dealer is aware I prefer 40 bucks worth of oil compared to 10K or more engines, but they did suggest I wait till it is well broken in, at least 1500 miles or so before changing even though it isn't truly necessary. Converted to synth at about 5K miles and plan to swap oil every 5K miles.

You can save a bit of money with synth blend, but if your dealers have prepaid oil changes I'd get them for the full synth.
