JGC - Removing a tow plate and brake Master

I'm thinking of purchasing a 2015 JGC Summit CA Edition. It has 6000 miles and has a Blue Ox tow plate and brake master...owner tows behind his motorhome.

If I purchase the vehicle I would remove the system. I understand they mess with the wiring for the turn signals and brake lights. Should I be concerned about removing the system and it creating any problems?

I realize I would need to get a new lower grill installed and I'm good with that.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Re: JGC - Removing a tow plate and brake Master

That 6000 miles does not include the miles it was towed.. so buyer beware..

2wd or 4wd? if 4wd, pray that the owner did the right things to prep for each flat towing trip.. else the drivetrain may not be too happy..

I have no experience with that BlueOx system. It may not even have to be removed at all..

Re: JGC - Removing a tow plate and brake Master

Good call. I will ask about how much it was towed and check tires when I go and see it. I was quoted $200 + part to remove the front hardware and replace the lower grill. That seemed reasonable.

4x4 model Would an inspection by a mechanic be able to even check out the drivetrain or is that a hope and pray item?

Are you dealing with the current owner? if so, you could ask him to show you what he does to set up the GC for towing (it isn't that difficult, transmission in park and xfer case in neutral, wait for the xfer case shift to complete)

Yes, dealing with current owner.

He did say that it was only towed about 2000 miles. It is also his second jeep and third car he has towed behind an RV and said he has no problems towing his vehicles.
