Lifetime Jeep Nut - A diesel MJ, a gas MJ, a DD XJ, and now a WK2

Hello all.

Figure I should introduce myself. I can't really do much else on the forum without at least one post in here, so why not.

I hail from the far Northwest Suburbs of Chicago. Been a lifetime Jeep nut. Probably creeping up on 30 Jeeps now lifetime. I've always been the type to shy away from car payments, and drove old reliable Jeeps. My first vehicle and Jeep was an '86 Comanche that really started the addiction. I run the Comanche Club with a few other guys, and am rebuilding one on the side. Currently, I have my 1986 Jeep Comanche with the factory turbo diesel, a 1987 Comanche 4.0L under the knife for restoration and lift, my old DD XJ, and my new WK2.

My diesel Comanche has my Wildernest on it, and gets a ton of attention in the summer at campgrounds and at car shows.

My project Comanche... Currently in winter stoppage, just too cold. Will be a 4.0L AX15 231 on a 4.5" lift and 33's.

My DD XJ that took on a drunk driver in an F250 at 45 MPH... And lived to tell the tale.

And finally... My current DD. The reason why I'm here. The XJ started a downhill slide since the accident. I bought it from the original owner. Had the window sticker, all documents, really well taken care of. Once it was multicolored and had paid for itself, it didn't get washed as much, and the rust just took off. As it sat, it needed all new suspension due to leaf sags, and probably $2,000 in paint and body work. I had been keeping an eye out for a newer vehicle and one caught my eye at a local auction. A police department had a WK2 admin car for sale. Was a 2011 WK2 with 100 K and no options. Fairly clean, but a base model. They had sold another one for about 13K, so I knew the ball park. What I didn't know however, was how that 3.6 felt. After convincing the GF to come with to the local dealer to kick some tires before plunking money down on a vehicle I had never sat in, we tried one on.

Trying to find the most comparable one, I found a stripper Laredo with low miles. Close enough to the auction car, so hey, lets try it. After talking to the salesman, and him asking my range, he told me about this loaded Laredo they got in on trade. Every option I could want. Panaramic roof, nav, subwoofer, leather... One owner, dealer maintained, and traded back in to the dealer. After a quick drive, I was sold. Against my normal overcritical research, we talked numbers, and after some negotiations, brought home a high mileage (87K) WK2.

The thing is truly immaculate. The PO cared a ton, and it showed. After finding out on here how to look up Nav history, I found all his recent destinations, and average speed. The 87K was definitely all highway, and business trips. I love it a lot. Newest and nicest Jeep I have ever owned. I love the styling, but the chrome was a little over done. After some plastidip and trips to the dealer, I ended up with the Jeep slush mats and splash guards, factory roof bars off CL, and plastidipped wheels, rear brow, and grille. Now it looks more my speed. Even found some amber plastishield covers for the fogs. Here is how it sits now.

Happy to be here!

And I know there are some Diesel MJ questions coming, so... Fire away.

Rob
