1945 Ford GPW was my first Jeep. Happy to find this forum.
My first car was also my first Jeep, a 1945 Ford GPW.
My grandfather bought the GPW, brand new right after WWII (he bought a bunch of war surplus, including several GPWs, several matching trailers, and even military motor scooters). The GPW was in a crate, ready to be shipped to the war front, sporting standard Army paint job.
Alas, by the time I got it years later (my first "car") all the Army goodies were gone but it was still fundamentally stock (rifle holder on the windshield, hand-operated wipers, zero comfort). It was a total hoot to drive (the envy of my high school), and I put it into many wild and crazy situations.
These days I have tow a 2008 Jeep Liberty behind a motorhome.
But I'm now evaluating 2013 vs. 2014 GC. First impression of 2014 is at least 1 step forward (8 gear tranny), 1 step back (loss of very handy flipper window, might be a show-stopper), and 1 sideways (higher price but for what). But I have a lot more to learn about it.
