looking for first jeep
hey all, my name is brett and i live in phoenix. i've had nothing but gm sedans, 3 of which were cadillacs, my whole life. with the exception of the 2010 malibu i drive now, all were purchased used, and that's the path i think i'll take looking to get my next vehicle.
for a few years now i've been checking out the newer grand cherokees, which i believe are referred to as wk2 models (not sure why, but i'm sure i'll find out). i've never had an suv before, nor have i ever really had a need for one. but, there's been times when my malibu couldn't go places that i'd like to out here (originally from illinois, btw) and i think it's time for a change.
i'm currently shopping for a wk2, but i'm not sure which direction to go. meaning, i could afford a 2011-2013 model, but would prefer the styling of the 2014+ models. i know they went from a 5 speed to and 8 speed transmission and it seems to be well received, but that doesn't mean the older engine is less reliable, does it? also, i've seen really good deals on the newer diesel models; is there a reason why they're so affordable?
i don't need much in the way of fancy audio because i do my own, but i do definitely want at least a moonroof. would like the pano roof, but hesitant because it seems like there may have been leaking/sound issues from them? also, not sure if i need to get a 4x4 or not, though it would be nice to know i have it just in case.
regardless, i'm looking for my first jeep grand cherokee and i was hoping for some pointers. i've lurked on here for a few weeks now, but was hoping for guidance on those specific points mentioned. if all goes well, i hope to have a 'garage' of my own soon!
