Misfuelling

Hi I need clarity,I 've just experianced an incident whereby the attendant at the filling station pour petrol about 10 liters instead diesel into my car unaware I left and parked the car until the next morning whereby after driving it for about 4kms the car just stopped. Now my battery has died, so it possible for the battery to die due to misfuelling or what could be the possible cause for that.

Re: Misfuelling

Do not continue to drive it!

How much diesel was in the tank before the gas was added?

Did the battery die from you trying to start it again and again?

The dead battery may have saved your engine!

Tow it to a proper diesel mechanic and have the whole fuel system drained, cleaned and replace all filters. Depending on how much damage was done you may be looking at a new injector pump, injectors, all your emission control components. If it suffered detonation you could need a whole new engine!

I would be talking to the filling station owner about the cost of their mistake, but I would take it for repair somewhere else.

Re: Misfuelling

Hi there
If you have put any more that 2 litres ( and by that I mean, if the attendant has) of diesel in petrol and driven the car then it seems likely that you have pushed the wrong fuel through the cars fuel system and may well have caused some damage. I misfuelled my last car with petrol instead of diesel but luckily I realised before I drove anywhere. Misfuelling is not always covered by insurance either, so if any damage is done then I would suggest that the attendant is liable. The fuel drain company that attended my car has some really comprehensive and informative guides to wrong fuel in car, petrol in diesel and diesel in petrol....It may well give you an indication of what to expect and what may have happened: Diesel in a petrol car - Guide and Video
Hope that helps...
