Have a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.7 4X4. A guy owed me money so he gave me this car instead. Has 106,000 miles on it and the transmission is kind of dragging between 2nd and 3rd gear. Someone told me it could be the transmission control module. I don't have the money to have the transmission rebuilt or replaced. Told the guy I didn't want something I was going to have to spend money on before he gave it to me. It is spotless inside and out otherwise. Although I am having a problem with the key bob and the starter dragging at time when I start the car.

Wish he had had the money!!!!! Didn't need this headache!!!!

Re: Murn1953

Welcome to the garage. I would first put a scanner on it, to see if any fault code is set and go from there.

Re: Murn1953

I've had 2 mechanics who supposedly did and did not get any code back. Wouldn't the transmission send code if it was dragging and about to out? I would think it would to keep the transmission from completely locking up. I mean , it only has 106,000 miles on it.

I have an appointment with the jeep dealer nearby to do a recall fix on the ignition switch and will ask them what they think. It is a country dealership, maybe it won't cost too much for the opinion

Re: Murn1953

If the transmission controller sees a fault, it will store a fault code for it. There is no autozone or alike nearby, where they can scan it for free? What exactly do you mean that it drags between 2nd and 3rd gear?
