I'm a semi-new member (been "lurking" a while and taking advantage of the good information on this board). I finally decided to become a site supporter since I use this board frequently - it's got about the best information available; and, I want to take advantage of the new vehicle tracking provided my Milous. I've got a new Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk on order with the diesel motor and I'm anxiously awaiting it's arrival.
The Grand Cherokee is going to be a replacement for a small Cherokee Trailhawk that, unfortunately, was stolen in Idaho and crashed after a high-speed chase in Montana by a meth-head doper/car thief. I kind of wish it had been totaled, but then my mountain bike, whitewater kayak, and the rest of my stuff would have likely been destroyed. The sheriff's departments in the various jurisdictions through which the chase occurred told me that the chase exceeded 100 mph. The guy finally flew off a 4 foot bank into a pasture and traveled another 400 feet or so before striking a fence. It destroyed my front bumper, hood, and headlamps. The passenger front tires was blown off the rim, the air conditioner either blows very cold or very hot air, and there is a strange oscillating noise under the hood that seems to be in front of the driver's compartment. The thing was actually drivable, so after the police concluded their investigation, I limped home to Tennessee during daylight hours and it's at my local Jeep shop right now awaiting repairs.
I don't think it'll ever be the same again, and even if it is fixed perfectly, the thing was nearly new and I'll have bad vibes out of it forever, so I decided to trade it in. I'm worried that it'll be worth substantially upon trade-in even after it's fixed because of the theft/high-speed chase/crash. My insurance company (State Farm) indicated that they would not cover any depreciation after this event, so I guess I'll just have to eat it.
Any suggestions?
