Need some advice

I have a 2008 Jeep Commander 4x4. I had been having issues with getting my key to come out for several days then yesterday the key removed easily which was unexpected. Then hours later I got into my vehicle to leave and the key will not turn the ignition. Key fob will lock and unlock doors, lights work and alert bells will sound when key fob is placed in ignition. At this point thinking I am going to have it flatbed towed to the dealership. I am a single mom with very limited income and do not want to pay for a tow service to only find out I do not have enough money to pay for repair. If anyone has any idea how I can get my vehicle started to drive to the dealership or if there are any suggestions to this problem it would be greatly appreciated. I have already changed the batteries in my key fob. I have the all plastic key as well.
Thank you in advance.
Mishi

Re: Need some advice

This is a long shot, but have you also notice any problems in getting the transmission in and out of park? If so, you might try with your foot on the brake, moving into and out of, and back into, park enough to get the key in and turn it.

Unfortunately it sounds more like the key lock itself has come apart internally...
