New Guy -Long time Jeeper, new diesel WK2
Hi all...new member here. Have had numerous Jeeps and other 4x's over 45 yrs, including 2 CJ's, a Jeepster Commando, IH Scout, GMC's, Cherokee Chief, Grand Cherokee Overland 5.7 L, and now this '14 oil burning Summit.
Actually wanted to wait a year or so before taking the diesel plunge, but a huge West Texas buck intercepted my pristine '07 WK Hemi at 70 mph while we were driving back to FL from CA. Scary as hell! Nationwide wrote it off. Ended up in San Antonio for five days while everything sorted out and had a grand total of two 4x4 diesels to choose from that were decently equipped. Hence, my black '14 Summit. Love it, especially the towing. I was towing an enclosed trailer with motorcycle, tools, gear, belongings for 3 months, etc. About 4K lbs worth and the aero of an Iowa barn. 1500 miles later at 70 mph I saw 17.6 mpg from a new engine towing all the way. Like I said...love it! Home without the tow I'm at a solid 29.6 mpg highway and 22-23 avg. Just hope everything stands up to the rest of the hype. Glad to be here and looking forward to some interesting and productive discussions.
