New Here - CAI and Exhaust

New member great site! I am thinking of installing an airaid CAI and Borla exhaust on my 06 5.7 GC. Question...do i need to do anything else regarding the fuel intake? I don't have an tuner, not a particularly technical guy. I was going to have the dealer install it.

Also just a note: My jeep was 3 months and 2,000 miles out of warranty and i had to replace the transmission! It was completely chewed up inside...and Chrysler didn't do S*#t for me! Unreal! I am still trying to fight with them.

2005 had a 7/70 warranty ....2006 went to 3/36

Re: New Here - CAI and Exhaust

Welcome!

Do you need to do anything as far as tuning is concerned with the CAI? No.

Re: New Here - CAI and Exhaust

Thanks,
I know when I changed the air intake and exhaust on my harley's i always had to rejet the carb/retune the FI.

That helps, i also heard that the MDS sometimes causes some bad exhaust notes around 40-50 mph..do you know if this is common?

Re: New Here - CAI and Exhaust

Well the Jeep readjusts itself for the CAI. It'll be a-ok.

Yes that's true. To eliminate MDS you can do one of two things:

Buy a tuner (Diablo or Superchips) and disable MDS
Always press the tow/haul button

Re: New Here - CAI and Exhaust

Don't pay anyone to put the Air intake on. If you can follow instructions. You will be good. Piece of cake.

Re: New Here - CAI and Exhaust

Welcome Aboard!

CAI and Exhaust... The Jeep will adapt to no problem.

Autostick will also disable MDS.

Re: New Here - CAI and Exhaust

Also, from personal experience the borla exhaust for the 5.7L is a big let down. Its the same size tubing as stock, and doesn't really sound that good.

Look for something with 3in piping, MBRP or Gibson both do.

And as mentioned, dont pay someone to put in the air intake, a couple of screw drivers and about 45 minutes tops is all you need

Re: New Here - CAI and Exhaust

Wow - thanks for the advice on the Borla. Its too expensive to not have results. Have you heard anything about DynoMax? Also will i notice it when i change to CAI and Exhaust? Performance wise?

thanks
