Re: New jeep owner from NY

ok thats awesome. I actually have it running directly to a fuse. The first time i hooked it up. I was told to use the wrong wire, it was a regular speaker wire, not a remote wire. So when i hooked it into my fuse a little while later, the wire started on fire. I had it tucked under the plastic molding on the floor. So when i came out to my car, i noticed smoke,it was that wire on fire. it burned my carpet!! i was so angry!!

No i was told to hook it it a fuse in my fuse box it powers the amp. But the amp stays on when i turn my car off and runs my battery dead. When my car caught fire, i had a normal speaker wire running to that fuse. and i guess the remote wires have a different make-up, opposed to a normal speaker wire. and it caught fire.

Yeah, the purpose of the remote power wire is to trigger the amp on/off when the car is turned on/off.

There is no difference in the wiring (comparing speaker wire to remote wire) - actually the remote wire is typically a smaller/thinner (larger guage) wire. You'll be fine with the speaker as a remote power source. You can use many things though - cigarette lighter pos wire, CD player speaker lead, etc.

Well any speaker will work... I just assumed those were the closest to the amp. But use whatever speaker is easiest.

The wire caught fire because of too high of voltage running through it and too small of wire. I've never used the fuse box for any aftermarket wiring, so I'm not familiar with the characteristics of using them. I just use the battery.
