New member - 2004 WJ limited

Hi all. Just joined the forum and have been busy reading through all the informative messages.

My current jeep is a 2004 WJ limited 4x4 currently completely stock which I've owned since 2006. Previously I had a 2001 WJ. Upgrade to the v8 2004 for more towing capacity of a box trailer with the sand toys.

Now looking to starting upgrading. This is a still a DD with 70-80 miles of daily commute so I need to keep it road friendly. Starting with a 2" lift kit and new tires that will go onto the stock rims for now. In searching there doesn't seem to be an overall consensus on the 2" lifts. Going to talk to the folks at 4wheelparts in town today and see what they think. Funny that I went there 5+ years ago looking for parts they did absolutely nothing with Jeeps. Now at least from driving by I see lots of 'em out front.

Since I've got almost 100k miles I'm going with new shocks as well. Need to see if I can get something now that will work with both the simple 2" spacer lift and would also be compatible with a future 3/3.5" higher lift.

I thought I had the tires figured out until I realized that the limited has 17" stock rims instead of the 16" on the previous one. Considering the Firestone Destination A/T 245/70R17 which spec at 30.6 overall diameter. Being in Vegas there isn't much mud driving, just desert and sand. Maybe an occasional trip to southern utah but that's rare currently. Any other opinions on tire size/choice? Been searching through the build threads here and elsewhere trying to find what's most popular with the 2" lifts.

Also picked up a K&N cold air intake that will go on next week.

For the interior I haven't done much on this Jeep. In the last one I a full carputer with a 7" touch screen built in. Was going to do the same with this but really have accomplished 99% with the Garmin GPS and iPhone. I do have a P.I.E. cd changer interface for 3x direct aux input.

More and pics in follow up posts.

Re: New member - 2004 WJ limited

Welcome! Glad to have you here.

There are many people that just slap on some spacers and maybe shocks to get the 2" of lift. There's tons of options for the 2" lifts It really depends on what you want to spend, and the ride quality you want to have.

With tires there is some good stuff there. Don't get something too agressive for the sand though. I had the Goodyear wrangler silent armor in 245/75/16 and they were great in the sand.

Re: New member - 2004 WJ limited

I'm in Las Vegas.

Stopped by the 4wheelparts store at lunch. Nothing special there, they could get the daystar 2" kit and shocks in a few days.

Searching around looks like one of the better kits is the 2.75" from KevinsOffroad. I need to call for more info but looks like new coils, shocks, a-arm spacer and some shock sleeves (which the guy at 4wheel didn't have any clue about). Almost twice in price what the spacers and shocks would cost (listed at $670). Any opinions on this being worth the extra $$?

Other than increasing my WJ knowledge, the second best part of this site has to be browsing the avatars

You don't need an A-Arm Spacer for less than 3". For that much $$ I would do a OME lift kit. In fact that's what I did!! It's about 2", but I also added a 3/4" spacer all the way around to clear the 32's. I love the ride of it. It's better han stock with the "NitroCharger Shocks" that OME makes. The springs are not too stiff like many others either.
