Thanks Jim. Quick question, do you know if the late 90s-2004 are more reliable then the 2005-20010 Jeep Grand Cherokees? I keep seeing mixed opinions on the later models from electric problems to there junk but i have also heard they will last 200k miles easily. Any help would be appreciated

Hi Mike,

To be honest I haven't had enough Jeep experience to be able to give you a definitive answer on that i'm afraid but what I can tell you is that a friend of mine has owned his 2005 Grand Cherokee V8 for at least 6 Years and he hasn't had any major issues, but I know there is a bit more electronic wizardry involved with the slightly newer models for example he has had a couple of occasions where his Jeep's gone into 'limp' mode with minor things that have gone wrong which has the effect of limiting your speed or engine rev's until whatever the issue is has been rectified, whereas I don't think mine does that, I think it just starts making weird noises or just goes bang basically if you get my meaning! I get the feeling my era Jeep is a little 'old school' if you like in comparison to something 5 or so Years newer. I've only owned mine for a few weeks, maybe a couple of Months almost and it's my first Jeep! Not helping much am I!? Neither of us has had any reliability issues so far though, I have read about the straight six motor being capable of 300,000 if looked after well! I'm pretty sure there will be somebody on here that can help you further, I will say I don't know now why I didn't buy a Jeep a long time ago, I think it's the car I have always wanted but just never knew that 'till I got it! Smashing motor! Best wishes.
