New Member, Long Jeep Past!
Owned first Jeep 1985, then 1988, 1993, 1997, 1998, 2004.
Hands down best was the '88.
Worst (so far) were 1985 that had a GM V6. Jeep must have had lame mgt. to have partnered with GM and it's first production V6! Pox on both!
Almost as troubling was '97 that Jeep (Chrysler) bought back under Lemon rule (too many days in garage in first 12 months ownership.
The 1998 is still running @ 180k with no major repairs! Jeep straight-six engines were bullet-proof. Why did Jeep fix what wasn't broke?
My 2004 Grand Cherokee Special Edition V-8 has been trouble-free up to 59K miles. Had it in for heated seat recall two weeks ago. "Fix" would have been easier and cheaper for Jeep if unplugged the devices. The new heat elements are now under the seat cushion and hardly effective. We questioned if they were even working but the technician assured us otherwise adding..."at least they won't catch fire now!"
That's my toss out pitch.
