New member looking for any opinions
Hello, I have a 2003 Jeep Liberty Renegade and for over 7 months now I have had the check engine light on. P0442 small Evap leak. I have been to three garages, one of them twice. First visit we did the basic checking of the vacuum lines, replaced any that appeared dry rotted. Cleared code, was back on next day. Went back next weekend and they smoke tested it, replaced one possibly dry rotted line, purge solenoid and gas cap seemed fine. No issues found. Cleared code to see if it was a fluke, came back on after about 65 miles. Went to another garage and they basically checked over the same stuff and recommended replacing a solenoid near the battery because it may be sticking. Has anyone had a similar issue where the issue doesn't seem to be anything obvious and straight forward. The original garage I went to said to go to the dealer unfortunately and have them replace anything they think it could be. I have read other forum sites and saw that some people have done that and had 800.00 worth of parts replaced without actually know which specific thing was bad. Knowing this will be in the upper hundreds of dollars if not close to or at a thousand, I am wondering if anyone has a decent fix idea. I was a shop manager of a garage and helped with many different types of repairs for 6 years so I know my way around vehicles and am great with "r&r" work, but never got to in depth with diagnosing issues. Any help would be appreciated. I'm more than willing to order parts and install them myself, but don't want to start throwing to many parts at it without a clearer direction. Thank you in advance.
