Hi everyone, my name is Nathan. I'm a long time Jeep owner, active on other Jeep forums specific to my models. I own a 1968 Jeepster Commando, a 1999 Grand Cherokee and a 2008 Wrangler Rubicon.
I'm currently considering buying a newer Grand Cherokee. I'm torn between a 2007 Grand Limited with the 3.0 Diesel or a new 2011 Grand with the 3.6 v6. This vehicle will be driven by my wife around town mostly, but will also do double duty as a light tow vehicle (usually towing less than 2000lbs). Fuel economy is a big concern of mine. From the research I've done, the 2007 Diesel and the new 3.6 get almost the same milage (fueleconomy.gov), between 22-24 highway. I'd like to know how much milage is effected when towing with the 3.6 v6. Anyone have any experience with this? I've towed with diesels in the past, and that's where they shine!
We tow a Scotty 2000lb camper about a thousand miles a year. Currently, we tow it with our 4.7 v8 with Quadratrac II and get about 12mpg.
I'd love any feed back about the 2007-08 Diesel or the new Grand Cherokee!
