(originally posted in the Ordering Info thread...forgive me for cross posting. I should have gone here first)
Hey Guys...been lurking for a few weeks as a guest and decided to signup and jump in on the discussion. I'm a big diesel fan. My first diesel was a 1978 VW Rabbit as a kid then later an 85 6.2 Suburban (don't make fun, it was bullet-proof and 23mpg). I currently own an 83 Mercedes 300SD and a 2003 7.3L Eddie Bauer Excursion....both exceptionally reliable. My Excursion is a lifted 500HP 4x4 beast with lots of mods....so I am a performance diesel fan.
I am good buddies with the owner of a dealership and anxiously waiting for the order books to open. I've only owned one Jeep...a Cherokee 2D 2WD 4.0 HO "Sport". Sold it due to family needs for a 4 door. I probably wouldn't have bought another until the CRD option was announced. I tried to buy a JGC CRD 5 years ago with the Mercedes 3.0 motor but couldn't locate one at the time. The Liberty CRD intrigued me as well but was discontinued when EPA regs halted most diesel options for a few years.
So...I have standing orders with my dealership buddy to place an order ASAP for me, as follows: LIMITED in MAXSTEEL, LUX2, ORA2, 20's, Block Heater. Now I wait....
FYI, I use the "Build" wizard on Jeep.com daily to see if anything has changed and this morning I could pick 20" wheels with ORA2! This is new...they even removed the 18" wheel description from the ORA2 info. I for the life of me can't see the need for the Overland, when a loaded Limited is 6k less and has nearly all the features. I don't think I want the "Advanced Technology Group" unless someone here can talk me into it. From my list of vehicles you can see that I keep a vehicle for decades not years if it's reliable (hence the diesel fetish
)...so gizmos don't always thrill me.
The JGC replaces an 2009 Murano LE AWD which is a company reimbursed vehicle. It's mandated that I get a new ride so I'm going to let my company buy me JGC CRD
but I'm feeling the heat...I need to get one ordered!
My Murano averages 21.3mpg with > 70% highway...and has NEVER met it's EPA estimates. IMO Gas vehicles under-perform in efficiency estimates. All my diesels EXCEED their estimates and improve after break-in. I drive 30k+ a year and the diesel should pay for itself in 2-3 years easily....and I get to keep it after it leaves the company program.
Anyways, sorry for being long winded. This is the first vehicle I have been excited about since the Diesel Excursion. I'm impressed with the forum and it's great to see some factory guys on here as well.
So, I guess I'll be waiting along with you (WK2 CRD) guys now.
